I've never had experience with a golden angel but I feed my angel different things. I feed it frozen angel and butterfly diet, mysis, my home made preparation (shrimp, fish, scallops, garlic, nori) and algae sheets. As for snails, I don't see why they wouldn't be ok.

Question:
1. how many snails should i get and what kinds?
2. should i take water from my biocube to boost the cycle?

I found Mexican Turbo Snails to be the best, most active and good at cleaning. Astrea Snails are lazy, sometimes they don't move for days, wheras the Mexican Snails are constantly moving. Nasarius (sp?) snails are my favorites to watch, good sand sifters and they clean up junk off the bottom. So I'd go for some of both kinds. 4 Mexican Snails and 10 Nasarius Snails.
When I cycled my 45, I used a piece of LR out of my larger tank to help with the cycle.

A raw shrimp is good , but ghost feeding is where everyday you feed the tank even though there are no fish . The food breaks down and helps with the cycle . I would do both if I was you .

if he was gonna put an octopus in there he would have needed ot have it drilled and added a nice big sump with some good filters before putting water in the tank. plus, to keep an octopus you sorta need to plan before buy, there not a plan after buy type of fish like an angel or an eel would be.
