New custom 20g stand

If I post some diagrams of the wood cuts and measurements, can someone help me get some ideas, or tell me what I'm doing wrong?

OK, so I thought about how the stand should be built, and right now, I'm a little worried.
The 20g high is 12 1/2" wide, and the 20g long sump is also 12 1/2" wide. So, how in the world do you support the weight with just 3/4" plywood, if you can't put the plywood underneath the bottom of the DT?
Also, due to space requirements, I only have 4ft x 1 1/2ft of floor space to work with. That means I'll have to turn the 5 1/2g aquariums to the side , and the stand will be a little wider on the sides. Ugh, this is getting more complex than what I had set out to do. lol.
Also, is there any suggestion on how high to mount the LEDs off the top of the water? I was thinking 12"?

Curious why you can't put plywood underneath the 20 gallon DT??????

I figured it all out! I have a pretty dang good idea of how to do everything now, and how to support it all... Disregard what I was talking about earlier.
I am going to go with a 2x2 frame anyways, and skin it with 1/2" birch plywood. My wife said she wants to pick out the stain color and trim. lol.
I'm going to the hardware store to pick up a few things today. Maybe I can get started on the frame today. Pictures to follow!!!!

Hey Snake - I was at the HD the other day - I seen a new product that is facia that is made out of PVC - I thought now that would be neat to try to make a stand out of, you could screw it and glue it with PVC glue - then paint with fusion krylon. I think it would be indestructable.

Well, here's an idea that just popped in my mind:
It's more cosmetic than anything, but how about cutting out square holes in the cabinet doors on the side of the tank, and making them frosted glass?
Like This:

I think that it would make it look like a piece of furniture even more...

From what I gather from your previous postings, you have limited space, a kid on the way, and limited space again.
So.... your going to have to be creative and think kid saftey.
Here are my ideas for you. I like the changing table idea because of the starge of the supplies and easy to lock
This little beauty small and room for storage. Take out the bottom drawers and remove the face and make it one big door that opens.
and finally my favorite, the man storage- unit fish stand

LOL! Thanks Kiefers.
... every time I type your handle, I think to myself...
"I before E, except after C. Weird, isn't it?"
I like your ideas, but I don't want to buy a pre-built unit. As far as a changing table - we are going to use the bed/couch/floor and a towel. lol - no need for a "station." Besides, I barely have enough room for a crib. Guess how big my apartment is, not including my closet and bathroom? 400 square feet. Yup. You got it. So, building this aquarium stand is taking up 6sqft. lol Not a whole lot of room. Hopefully the next place we move into will be a decent rent-house.
Al&Burke - That is an interesting idea. I didn't find anything like that at my local HD. But, I am really satisfied with the wood that I already purchased. I really enjoy the look, feel and smell of finished wood furniture. Plus, doing finishing work like this helps me hone my skills. And yes, that is my artwork that I did originally. :D I love paint. :D
Traveler, I don't think that would be such a good idea because the two side cabinets are for electrical storage and RO water top off resevoir and an algae scrubber. Nothing really to showcase on the sides. It would be neat to convert it to books in the future, but that's not what it's current purpose is.

I have probably seen this a dozen times so far, but does anyone know a good paint/substance to use to seal the inside of the stand to keep it moisture resistant... Maybe even waterproof at the bottom? Should I use a piece of pond liner?
I'm also going to use some styrofoam underneath the sump and the display tank and RO resevoir... Just to even everything out and prevent leaks...
I found some plywood at HD for $25. It is 3/4" "cabinet plywood." It didn't say what type of wood it was. It kind of looked like pine to be honest. Since it's cabinet wood, I'm guessing that it's made to be able to stain, right?
My wife also picked out the color of the stain this morning as well... "Gunstock" is the name of the color. Never heard of it before. I was going to go with a cherry/mahogany - but she liked "gunstock." My kinda woman right there. lol!!!

Once I'm done with a little bit of the framing this afternoon, I'll post some pics up this evening, if anyone is interested.

Kilz is a waterproof primer.
Killz is primarily a stain blocking primer. It doesn't have any type of protective finish or waterproofing qualities by itself. I believe the only product that they make that is actually a water proof material is a specialty paint they make for concrete sealing.

Sorry you are right.
How about this?

Yeah a couple of those would work. I'm not a huge fan of the water based polycrylics since they don't typically hold up as well as oil based polyurethanes. Not terribly crazy how the finish turns out with the stain/finish combo products either. But they work.
