you've done a hell of a job on that stand, my friend! you've definitely given me some ideas on how to build the skeleton of a stand.
all this talk about plastic containers has me a bit nervous, though. i use a 33 gallon rubbermaid roughneck trash can for my ato resevoir, and though i havent had any problems yet, that doesnt mean that something bad wont happen in the future. it's been in use for roughly a year.

Very nice, Seth. A couple coats of poly and a hand rubbed finish could make that puppy look like glass. You still planning on making a top section or sections?

I'm going to skip the poly. For the $20 for a quart, it's not that big of a deal to me. lol Plus, I'll probably be keeping the stand...
It's debatable at this point, whether I'm going to do side cabinets or not. The purpose of doing the side cabinets was to hide some extra equipment - but with as much space as I have now underneath the stand, I don't think the cabinets are going to be necessary.
Plus, I am secretly saving up for a drilled 75g or 90 that the stand will fit perfectly... so I don't know if I want to go through the trouble of building side cabinets since I may be upgrading soonish.
My daughter is going to be born in March - so I'm kinda rushing through to get some of this done before she gets here, cause I know once she's here, my time will be dedicated elsewhere. lol.

It's in place! woot woot!
That's the sump on top of the stand... a 20g long, ... just for size comparison. I still have to figure out if I can fit it in and out of the stand if I have to. lol
So... this is the end of the thread. Thank you all for reading!

The side cabinets is a different build. I didn't want the stand and the cabinets to be built together because that only limited the stand to one size aquarium. By building the stand separate from the cabinets, it allows me to put many different types and sizes of aquariums on the same stand. IF I do decide to build side cabinets for this stand, it will be a little while. I'm still considering upgrading to a 75g in the near future.
