Hi! I'v been read all of the posts about me but just have not had time to reply. It has been a busy couple weeks setting up my new tank. Rykna has been a lot of help and everything seems to be going well.
I have some new Turbo snails and a Devil Damsel. I have been feeding the button poly, the Decorator crab, and the Damsel brine shrimp. What other food can I feed them?
Wooohoooo

Glad you could join us.
So how do you derive "Beth" from "Lizjane"?

I'm Elizabeth Jane but everyone calls me Beth. However Beth was a very common name on this site.
I killed my first fish today. Hard day. I would quess this has happened to other people but I wish I had done things differently.

It happens. Loosing your first fish is always hard but it is sadly common. It's usually inevitable, but we just have to learn from our mistakes and the deaths of our pets to learn how to take better care of future ones. Without mistakes we would know nothing about fish and need to know nothing.
So don't feel bad, just Keep Moving Forward ^.^

Thanks. I just wish the lfs had given me better information. My son picked out the fish and it was called a Mandarin Pschodelic Goby. I have read alot about different fish and remember that most gobies were easy to care for and peaceful.
When I got home I could not find this type of fish on-line. Its ended up being a dragonette not a goby. Dragonettes are difficult to care for and have very specific diets.
Next morning the fish was dead.

Yep. Mandarins are probably the neatest small fish to get but they need well-cycled tanks.
If you want a goby i'd go for a watchmen. Mine has the funniest personality and he is very good at cleaning up left-overs in the tank. You won't see him often (atleast i don't mine, he is shy" but there very funny.

The damsel and the crab are fine. I just accidentally bought a delicate fish. It didn't even make it through the night. My tank tests fine. But I am going to take some of the water into fthe fish shop to have them test it. Are the 6 in 1 test strip not very good?

Most test kits that use test tubes and "reactive" chemicals will give you better reads. The strips can be compromised fairly easily.
I use Saltwater Master Kit, personally. I don't know if there is a great difference.
Fish stores are just like anything else, in my opinion. Each person working there may have knowledge, though not neccesarily the knowledge you need! Trust yourself and if you don't recognize a fish, pass until you can find info. You'll save money and heartache.

By the way, the mandarin didn't die from starvation in one day, either it wasn't acclimated properly or the water parameters are not ideal.

It wasn't starvation, it would have had copepods anyway, it was a delicate fish in a fairly new tank. Mandarins need like 6 months cycled or more to be happy, it is a new tank.
Possibility it could have been bad when she bought it in the first place thought. But most likely due to new tank.

No, I didn't mean was it the damsel that died, I was asking if you thought the damsel had anything to do with the death. Damsel's have a reputation for being a nuisance and can pick at a lot of other fish.
As far as the test strips, you could use them for a "quick read" on something, but I agree with PonieGirl. Get the kits that come with the little glass test tubes and solutions that have to be added. They should be more accurate.
