Tip for the test tube ones:
Shake for a minute or more (seriously)
if you don't shake it up one part of the solution might shoot out and then there is an imbalance. Thats how i screwed up my ammonia test. once you don't shake it and there is an imbalance the test no longer works, or it might just be inaccurate.

LFS tested water and found it to be fine. They refunded what i paid for the Mandarin because the other fish from the tank also died.
My damsel is very passive and I got a new clown fish. The clownfish is racing around the tank and will not eat.
Any ideas?

Try turning the lights off. New fish don't generally have great appetites. They just want to find a spot!
What kind of clown fish?

Do not trust the LFS to tell you how your water quality is, they are very lenient in what is acceptable, this way they can sell you more fish. Buy your own test kit and start testing yourself.

Yes, I helped her set up the entire tank...took 4.5 hours. I set the tank up as a FOWLR, and added some of my cycled LS. The light is a basic viewing florescent tube. There are no corals in the tank, with the exception of the little button hitch hiker.

Wow, most fish places will go to great pains to NOT refund a person's money...that's pretty nice there. I'm guessing if both the purchased fish and the fish in the store died around the same time, you're probably looking at a case of cyanide capture. I had a fish go belly up in QT for that very reason. Sorry for your loss, but sounds doubtful that it was your fault!
Oh, and +1 on the wet set tester kit.....the strips contaminate ridiculously easily, and don't give you terribly accurate readings even in the best of times. I use an API kit-- cheap, fairly reliable, and easy to read.

My LFS rocks!! It's the only saltwater store in the twins that I go to.

She got all that for a blue damsel? Your LFS DOES rock!

What'll they give up for a super-rare, preowned, extra-large Domino Damsel? It's the...er....."deep black color morph"
