I think it will help alot if you run your canister filter fornow.

You are online at 4:00 in the morning??? I cat nap...so get on site every couple of hours. will get my 305 Fluval canister out tomorrow and set it up. Both are really big for the little 30g but this HOB is useless. I have to go digging in the recycle hopper..in the snow...boy am I glad I waited one more week to put it to the curb.

My dog woke me up just having a coffee and catching up, Happy holidays Flower

Oh Chanukkah is long past, my next Holiday is Passover in the spring. Our New Year is in September. My dog wants me to play doorkeeper every two hours. He annoys me but I love him.
I will most likely go back to bed in a bit so I don't drink coffee when I get up like this. I hurt my back changing water in that 30g..Shhh don't tell my mom, she will worry. I took a Back and sore muscle pill...It's just fancy aspirin. Narcotics make me very sick.
You have children don’t you? Won’t they be up soon to open gifts?

Flower, I got my glass from Lowes. Do you have one close to you?? It dosent have to be thick.
And they will cut it to size for you to boot!!!

Good morning all!
What thickness did you get your glass?
EDIT:
December 25 2010
Day 3 after a 1/2 water change to get rid of cloudiness last night...This morning ammonia reads: .25
I only put one jumbo raw shrimp in the tank...should I add more or is that enough?
I have the Fluval canister filter out and will set that up this evening. I don't like the HOB and it looks like it will b a bit before I get the new sump up and going.

Day 4
UPDATE:
I just set up the Fluval 305..this is a 30g tank and this Fluval is for 70g. Intake is near the very bottom, do you think it’s too long and should be shorter?
I have a spray bar , but the tip that closes it off is missing. So I am on a quest to find what I could use to plug it up. Any ideas are welcome. Right now I just have it in there lower in the tank and pointed upward to move the surface water.
I placed a Maxi jet in there to replace the little Koralia, until I have seahorses in the tank the extra flow should help. I’m not sure how much flow Fuscus horses need. The tank has to have a current but I assume a very weak one.
Ammonia reading = .50 so it’s climbing, a good thing..LOL..that piece of shrimp looks nasty. The tank water is crystal clear FINALLY! I hate cloudy.

Are you going to use the fluval for filtration on this tank...or is it just temporary?
Seahorses can have some flow...just not blasted....

Well I originally intended to make a sump/refugium out of the bottom tank. So I would have a bunch of copepods and hopefully no nitrates. Then I started thinking maybe divide the tank so one side is a refugium and the other for baby seahorses..if any should show up. They sound rather prolific but the babies don’t have a chance unless you are set up first to care for them. Space is extremely limited in my house, this one tank is it for an extra, so I want to use it in the best possible useful way. Since I have not done anything with it yet I can still toss ideas around…once I start adding baffles it is set in concrete.
What do you think? The Fluval is a really good canister and I have only had it about a year so it’s pretty new. It cleared this tank in 3 minutes. It is kind of overkill on a 30g but it sure cleaned it up nice.
Also .. Do seahorses swim high in the tank or stay closer to the bottom? I ask because this Maxi Jet gives good flow and will stay high enough from the horses…So give me your input..

Depends on the horse...LOL
ANyway.....If you plan on using the fluval, I would move the intake up a little.....and modify the flow bar so you can still use it.....but I would use it end to end...

What do you mean by end to end? The only seahorse suitable for my tank is the Fuscus.
The spray bar won't "spray" unless I plug the output end to force water through the little holes that line it.

Instead of the way you have the bar now.....back to front....PLACE it left to right.....(end to end haha)
I am sure you will find something to plug it up with......it will make a great top current (as you already know)

Are you referring to the way it crosses the intake tube? The hose is not long enough, remember I had this thing on the 90g. If I put the Fluval under the tank it would work but I have an empty tank there and the only place to set the canister is on the left side..it will kink if I force it.
Once I set it up as a proper spray bar that part will be lifted up closer to the surface. I have to also order a small piece of tube that bends just the right way. I can’t find it. I had it once, that’s why I know about that piece. I had been using the spray bar flat in the back vertically to move water behind the rocks in the 90g. I’m missing some small parts, but I have the book with the part numbers so I can order anything I need.

Flow I have seen spray bars that are verticle as well they go from top to bottom - you might be able to put one in each corner, heck take your rock wall out and build one into it - you are still early in the game.

I was just referring to the direction it was pointing....I know the way you have it sitting is only temporary :)

LOL...I'm not that early in the game.. I am not playing with that wall.
I have another section of that spray bar...it will go all the way across the top, which will work fantastic for surface movement. This tank is for sea horses so I can't blast them with the kind of water movement like the corals need, but still I need to get plenty of circulated water in there so there is plenty of oxygen and gas transfer.
I also looked at the book for proper placement of the intake bar...seems it is in the right place so I won't shorten it. They want it as close to the bottom without sucking up sand. It is about 3.5 to 4 inches away from the sand so it's good. The flow cap strainer does not count, it's the opening of the tube that matters.

Is a scarlet hermit crab the same as a red leg hermit crab? How is a red leg hermit different from a blue leg hermit, besides color? I ask becuase at seahorse.org they list acceptable critters for a CUC...SWF sells scarlet hermits but not red leg hermits
