I agree with Teresa here..... if you're going to spend some money on a PC fixture, you might as well spend just a little more on a 4 bulb T5 system.

Well I Googled 4 bulb T5 light system and came up with 4 different sets, a grow light, 4 X54w, a 4X 24w and 4 X39w
I don't want fancy lights, I just thought that if a 6500w light bulb was good enough for macroalgae it might sustain some plant life. I am going to get new lights but I was going for the cheap PC fish lights

Well I'm off to work...I like the 2 bulb T5 you sent me a PM about. Will that work for marine plants?
I have some research to do...tomorrow.

Day 16

Finally! My ammonia is 0 and nitrites are at 5.0+ (off the scale) so the tank is doing something at last. I get some cash on Thursday, so after bills I hope to get some much needed equipment.

Small CPR overflow and Ehiem pump 2000 + hoses and such for the sump/fuge to start. I can get the new lights around the end of the month…Then I should be ready for a CUC and maybe some corals to add some color. Then my horses, after everything is good and settled…that’s the plan at least.

Its a pretty good gental flow, I have a gorg in front and it moves the branches, but not so strong it blows the horses around. i think that is a 900 gph maxi jet I cant remember.

Question: Can a regular freshwater fish light be enough to use on a refugium?
I’m ordering new lights (T5s) for the Seahorses so I can have coral, and I was thinking I could use the old fish lights for the fuge if it will work, and have macroalgae (as strongly suggested) in there besides rock and sand. I have no idea the watts, it’s just a florescent bulb that comes on a regular fish tank with a hood (I won’t use the hood) I don’t even know if it’s square pin or straight pin??? It’s just a cheap garbage light.
UPDATE:
Tank is cycled.
I just ordered my Ehiem 2000 sump pump and CPR CS50 overflow. I got 2 X ¾ inch barbed shut off valves and ¾ inch barbed Y connection. I’m going to the glass place today to have the baffles cut and the top rounded. I also have to get my hoses and the silicone to attach the baffles.
So the sump/refugium will be all set…. LOL…I feel like the tank has been on life support while I had the canister as a filter. It isn’t alive until the sump/refugium is up and working. At the end of this month I will get the new lights (fingers crossed). Next step will be more live sand , rock and macroalgae for the refugium , and CUC and corals suitable as hitches for the DT and then a short wait to get my horses.

it should be enough for cheato. I have just a reg flor light on mine, and a reg light bulb on my reef.

Hey, your up early! I just got home from work. Do you know anything about macroalgae wars...I read I can have only one type of macro and I wanted some type of Caulerpa for the DT...If I put Chaeto in the refugium I don't want anythng going asexual on me and mess up the tank..

I have kids to take to school.
I hve cheato in my fuge, and two green types of calups, and a couple reds. You just have to learn the signs. If the calup starts to turn white you need to prune. I have never had a problem.

I'm putting in the baffles...LOL...what a mess, I have silicone everywhere. I am so glad this thing is going under the tank and will be covered up.
Is there some kind of Hudini trick to getting silicone on both sdes of the glass panes when there are only an inch of space? I put it on the edge real thick and as I slide the glass into place I now have silicone all over the glass. I can seal the center section really well because it's the first piece, after that I don't know if it really sealed or not. I'm real tempted to use the pond foam on the outer edges just to be sure.

When you have three baffles Flower always silicon the middle one first - I read what you wrote and I think that is what you are doing, sorry

Flower are the baffles tight between the side of the tank - you can use a little bit of crazy glue to hold them and then silicon it in.
