Couple of pics of the new Acan.....

Wife and I have been planning out the decor for the bedroom while we wait. The seahorse tank is likely going in the bedroom, which is going to have a very minimalist zen feel to it. Needless to say the stand is going to have a very thorough overhaul when we move.....more stuff for me to build!

LOL...you will redo your house ten times before you even move into it. I have my SH tank in my bedroom...I love it. My bedroom is also my office, one side is taken up with my desk and table with my printer and such..the tank is against the wall between the desk and bed, so no matter where I am in the room, the tank is right next to me.

You're probably right!
We have a small room that is going to be a dedicated office/library...finally a place to put all my books! I have bookcases to line 2 walls, and a small desk for the computer. My 20g pipefish tank is going in this room.

Another book person! What type of books do you have in your libray? I had 4 book shelves but my late X husband got 2 of them, and half the books, we had a Jewish library, the Talmud was $80.00 a book and there were 70 in the set, he got that. I still have the Mishnah Torah series, Rashis commentary and the writtings of the Prophets in the cloth binding. I also have the transliterated Torah....Those are my treasure books...
Here is all I have now:

My house is very small, I have my 47" TV hung overhead.

Beautiful barrister bookcases there! I have one that belonged to my grandfather, an antique Barrister that's about 150 years old. My "new" bookcases have just been weaseled from my mother...handmade low bookcases that my OTHER grandfather made (her dad) for a collection of leatherbound classics that my dad passed on to me. My mom had those cases outside in her florida room, so I bugged her to either bring them inside or give them to me.
Other than our Torah and Talmud, we have very little in the way of non-fiction Jewish literature. I've been reading through a few of Michael Chabon's novels lately, though....if you've a few days to enjoy it, I'd recommend "Gentlemen of the Road." Very fun stuff.
My modern fiction tastes tend to lean towards the realms of Fantasy and some SF. This past year I've been doing a lot of research on the mythology of the British isles, as well as Norwegian mythology. Currently I'm going through a fantastic text about middle eastern myths concerning the Jinn.....it's an interesting subject, mostly dealing with pre-islamic cultures, but it touches a lot of early Jewish folklore as well.
I've never had a single spot where I could have all my books around me. I know I can't pull out all my magazines...they'd probably collapse and crush me if I tried! Mag subscriptions are one reason I'm SO glad to see the advent of things like the iPad and the Nook. But I'm really excited to be able to sit at my desk and have everything practically within arms reach! It doesn't hurt that the pipefish tank will be RIGHT THERE, too!

Is that your Seder plate there on display? Very pretty!

What they want to charge for good furniture is a crime. My mother liked to go to those estate auctions, I always felt weird about them, but you can get some beautiful stuff for a fraction of the cost. Thank you for the complement...That Seder plate was the first one I ever purchased..it has many fond memories attached to it.
I don't read as much as I used to, there was a time that I lived with a book in my hand. My late husband would fall asleep studying the Talmud. I miss those days, I still love the books and know the contents well, they are like old friends.
I also really liked the scary books...Koontz was a favorite, and Stephen King. LOL...I hated magazines and the newspaper, because I would see so much of it at work. Now don't get me wrong I read the news, but I hated the sheer volume I had to pick up on the train...you couldn't pay me to take out a subscription to any of them.
There is nothing like having your own private space, it's refreshing and relaxing to have a tank close by, the steady gurgling of the water is paradise. My bedroom is my sanctuary, I have my desk and SH tank in there...I also have a small bookshelf in there with the basic books I reference all the time......all at arms length.

I love relaxing weekends. Got to spend the bulk of it over at my aunt's house-sitting the fish and cats while she is away in NYC for a few days. Water changes on the seahorse tank (naturally) and my aunt's little 28g tank were performed, plus I got to spend some much-missed time just sitting in front of the tank and watching all my little critters. Can't wait to make this into the bedroom tank.
Seems I have more time to wait for that to happen, though. I got a note back from the seller's agent, saying we would have a "definite" answer from their bank by the 24th. The twenty-freakin'-fourth. Sigh. LOL Every time I ask for an update, it seems the answer is "two more weeks!"
I just did 5 gallon wc's on the tanks this weekend. I don't mind working on Aunt's tank. She has more hair algae than she knows what to do with, but she doesn't seem to mind it so I don't fuss. Not much you can do about that when you're keeping a spotted puffer in a 28g tank....they make a good amount of waste, and you can't keep common algae busters in there with them. Every once in a while I drop a turbo snail in there as a snack for the puffer, and it cleans a few inches before it meets its untimely end in the jaws of the puffer. She's got some seriously nice pieces of LR in there, though...there's a huge flat rock that I told her I was calling dibs on if she decides to break the tank down.

Seahorse tank is doing well. I used some chemiclean to cut down on the cyano....not the best thing in the world, but for now it's a decent enough band aid. Water changes will take care of the rest. I also chose to go down to one feeding per day. If I'm the one doing most of the feedings I should be able to reduce the excess organics going in there. Seahorse is fat, happy-looking, and very reddish orange right now. Pretty girl!

Geesh...you would think they would want to sell the house already.....DAMN BANKS
so tell me about the chemi-clean? How did you use it? NO ILL effects on the horse???? I may want to try some on the 28G.....I can not get rid of the blotchiness I get daily NO matter what I do

I use it according to the directions, but I keep the protein skimmer running to help the O2 levels. I just dial it down super low so it doesn't overflow.

Hmmm......is it possible that could be dinoflagellates? I think Theresa might be able to give some insight into that...

I have hair algae in the SH tank (only on the back wall for now)...I haven't had HA for years in the 90g. SHs are messy eaters and that waste is feeding all the bad algae in my tank and I think meowzer, your cyano or dinoflagellates. That's why I added some extra flow with longer spray bars. I already do water changes once a week and clean the canister every other weeks. I also added a hectors goby.
Maybe adding to your water flow will help. I know you added those cute green stripes (I added yellow clown gobies) to eat the extra food but then they poo too, doesn't that add to the problem?.

TOO LONG...LOL....It comes on about 7 a.m....and goes off about 9:40 p.m.
The only thing I hate about the cube is I have to run all lights together
I would cut the lighting dramatically for 3-4 days. Then, I would increase water changes for a bit. Also, I would make sure the filter compartment is not trapping detritus. I dealt with a similar issue in my 55.

Yup. It's that time again, kiddies.... time for another non-update Update.
How boring.
I've pretty much nipped the cyano outbreak in the bud. Weekly water changes, combined with a slight change in feeding, have cleared that up. Went down to one daily for now, and I bought a flat pack of PE mysis and cut it up into pre-made cubes. No more PE cube packs with all the cloudy residue for me, thanks! Besides, it seems like the shrimp from the flat packs are somehow fresher....there is a much greater feeding response for those than there ever was with the shrimp in the cubes. Don't know why for sure, but there it is.
Oh, and hey! Here's a shocker for ya! We're still waiting for the bank's response on the short sale. I knew you'd be surprised.
I *did* make an addition to the tank today, so at least I have a valid excuse for updating. Barrier Reef was running a 15% off sale, so I snagged a large Green Daisy Polyp rock for a great price. Haven't figured out a good place to set it permanently, but it's settling in on the sandbed for now until it gets used to the MH lighting anyway.
I'll post pics of the tank as it stands sometime this week, just for fun....
