Didn't need that image.

The golden oak is a nice stain, that's what I used for the trim on my stand. 3 coats yields a nice, rich, color IMO without going too dark.
I like to search the manufacturers info to get a rough idea of the wattage each piece of equipment uses and the amperage it pulls. That'll give you a good idea if putting everything on the one circuit is a good idea or not or if you should break it up.
Just also need to consider what else is being used on the circuit as well, like lamps, or electronics. If it's too much for all of the above than I'd run a dedicated circuit for just tank equipment. And then I'd break it up by keeping just my power heads on the existing circuit that's already there. That way if one or the other circuit ever trips then you don't loose all of the flow in the system.

The biggest concern I have is the return pump and the LEDs.
I think I'm springing for a new heater -- the one I have has been in storage for a few years now, and been knocked around quite a bit...and it's glass. I'm sure it works, but.....well, if I'm going to get a titanium one, now is the time to do it.
There is one other outlet on this circuit. I run a low wattage lamp off of this, but that's the only other power draw. I suppose I should get an electrician quote to see about adding a new circuit with a 4-gang. More money = longer wait to get water in the tank, but if the price isn't too outrageous it would be worth it. :grumble:
I applied the sealer to the inside of the cabinets last night, and two coats of the golden oak to the decorative pieces. Also put the first cabinet door on hinges....and I hate them.
They're squared up on the door just fine, but they don't sit flush. SO.....back to Lowes this afternoon. Gonna swallow my pride and buy the damn expensive internal ones. Heh......

Huh. Maybe I don't need to pull another circuit. I just did the numbers for the bulk of my equipment:
Return pump, lighting, skimmer, powerheads, heater, reactor pumps, alternating wavemaker, and aqualifter all come to 639 watts. Following the watts to amps calculator using 110 volts as my fixed current, I get 5.8 amps total.
Corey, I'd love your input on this......does this sort of thing sound right? Here's the breakdown of what I could find online:

Sand came in!!

First cabinet. Hinges will that will not be used.

Overall shot:

Not much is going to happen to this until Sunday or Monday.

Looks good!
If your power draw for the whole system is right around 6 amps then technically you're only using a little less than half of what the typical circuit is rated for. So if the only other thing on the circuit is a lamp then I probably wouldn't burden myself with the extra expense of an electrician. But it is puzzling to me that you say there are only two outlet/receptacles on this circuit? Typically there's more but it all depends on who's done what to the house over the years.
I'd yank the single gang box out of the wall and stick in a double or triple gang box or even a quad. Then wire up 2-4 GFCI's off of that circuit's supply individually. That way only the GFCI with the power strip that has the faulty piece of equipment trips and not everything else.

Dang dude... I had 40 pounds of premium fine Fiji sand that I gave away about a month ago for free... I wish I let you know sooner...

LOL No worries there!
Just a timeline update: If all goes well, I'll be starting the tank fill on the weekend after next. Staining and poly this coming week, back in place by next weekend, and a week to get incidentals like wiring in order. Need to drill access holes between the cabinets next weekend as well. But still....getting closer!

Wow what a process it went through already? I really envy handy guys like you.

I'm only partly handy. There are many more on these boards who are much (MUCH) better at it than I. Still....it's fun to do, and nice to be able to look at it and say I built it. Warts and all.

Stand is officially outside, ready to be stained. Which means....of course....that it's pouring rain due to a tropical wave passing through today. Typical.

I'm curious about it too.  I'm going to double check that tomorrow to make sure I'm not talking outta my rear.
Hey Corey, I tested it out last night. Only things on this circuit are two outlet boxes (including the one for the rank) and a ceiling fan that has a light. Ceiling fan is almost never used, and light will be switched to fluorescent.

Good luck getting the rest of it done. Im looking forward to getting water in it.

Man it's raining cats and dogs here in Weston and where I work at.. Lauderhill... mall is dead and I'm wondering why I'm still here..
only thing that I'm looking forward is to go to Roger from Roger's reef food's house and picking up some nice acro colonies for super, ultra, mega cheap tonight. He's selling off his tank (350g) to make some type of aquarium in his house lol. good thing is that dude practically lives 5 mins away from me so it's win win for me.

Nice. How cheap is cheap? Anything that could live in your tank or my t5 qt for a while until the 110 is cycled?

Wow you wouldn't believe the things that I got. Yes, you could put it in the qt as long as the parameters are good. Pics coming soon.

Whew...hot out today! Just came in from staining the first coat on the main stand bottom. Might be a little too warm for this sort of thing, actually....stain was drying as I was applying, and virtually impossible to keep a wet edge. Still a learning curve for me. Almost wish I could build a few more so I can hone my skills. Almost.
I'm going to let this cure and hit it with some steel wool tonight. MIGHT do the second coat tonight if it's dry enough. If it doesn't rain, it most certainly will be.
Seth, you're right about our weather down here. South Florida has two seasons: Hot and Wet, and Hot and Dry. Our "winter" (and I use that term very loosely) consists of 2 to 3 weeks that you might call a nice brisk fall day. For instance: My wife and I are planning a camping trip this fall. We're going to hang out for a few days and camp right on the beach in the Keys. In November. Say what you will about seasons, but I bet ya can't do THAT in shorts and t-shirts up north!
