I saw this on Yahoo news this morning.
MSNBC left out the part about reversing the oil drilling decision. How will this effect what we are paying at the pumps. I expect oil futures to climb and the price of gas to increase.
I'd imagine that ban will be re-imposed rather quickly.

Oh god, it wasn't just a bad dream

So Obama is going to bring us all together by being "heavily influenced" by a left wing think tank

Sensible economics Obama style: Loan US car manufactures 50 Billion dollars to keep them out of bankruptcy then allow California to set mileage and CO standards that will further hurt Detroit's bottom line

Genius, Absolute genius
The offshore ban wont be reimposed, the Obamanistas will just create some new "environmental standards" that will add billions to the costs of offshore drilling. Watch it happen.

How is limiting California's emission standards going to affect Detroit's bottom line? The Big 3 already build cars specifically for California standards now. Won't affect them in the least.
As far as his 'left wing think tank', I saw at list the other day on his possible Cabinet selections, and there's a good possibility of several Republican's getting selected for several of the positions. But I guess those are the Outcast Republicans that don't think along right-wing party lines.

Did you bother to read the article?
If California sets new standard the manufacturers are going to have the redesign their products to meet the new standards.
As far as Republicans in the administration it means nothing unless they are in a position to make or influence policy. Let's see who he puts where.

What redesign? Different catalytic converter? More sensors? That's more business for the suppliers. The internal combustion engine can only be limited so much. Not much more than it already is. It's called electric and hybrid cars. If the government does this loan bailout, the Big 3 can retool their factories to start building these kinds of cars to be competitive with the foreign markets.

Once again, South Park hits the nail on the head. In an overly exageratted sort of way of course, but right on the head.
It's the end of the world! Take shelter! Obama won! Oh nooooooo!!!
And I thought Liberals were radical.

Anyone hear about these small, self-contained nuclear batteries capable of powering 20,000 homes? Small, but it's a start. (Maybe someday they can make them small enough to power cars!) They're about the size of a shed and can be buried in concrete, has no moving parts, and not susceptible to melt down accident. Available in 5 years!

Do you think the Obama government will allow the use here in the US?

Actually if they can retool the plants, it won't any more in materials to build hybrid/electric over gas engines.
GM has stated that it'll be out of money by the first of the year, most likely filing Chapter 11 at the least. They've stopped all negotiations with Chrysler, halted their 401K contributions, and announced no performance bonuses will be paid this year. Ford was never interested in Chrysler. Ford is staying afloat because they took loans out on all their plants back in 2007, so they still have some working capital left.

Uhhh...I don't think they're selling to the public. $25-30mil price is just out of my reach. Romania and Czech Republic are their first customers.

If you think the CO and mileage standards can be met with some sensors or a convertor

The US manufacturers cannot compete with the foreign makers because of the labor costs as it is. Don't you suppose the US brands would already be selling those cars if they could compete?
The only way General Motors is going to survive long term is to go bankrupt so they can renegotiate the union contract to realistic levels or better yet just throw the union out. It's gonna cost we the taxpayers billions before the geniuses in government figure that out.
