Obama to address your kids at school??

I was waiting for someone to start a thread on this non-issue. Yet another Tea Bagger paranoia conspiracy.

Obama is wanting to address schoolchildren nationwide to talk to them about the importance of education and staying in school. The Board Of Education sent out an agenda to all the school districts providing them an opportunity to use this speech as an exercise or lesson plan, allowing the kids to discuss and reflect their thoughts on what Obama was trying to convey. Anti-Obamites are saying Obama is trying to use this opportunity to 'recruit' schoolchildren into his Socialist regime. I see it as an opportunity to emphasize why our kids should try and better themselves and help turn the US Educational System around, which is one of the lowest-performing systems in the world.

Regardless of what your political viewpoints are, the man is our PRESIDENT and has every right to address school children without a permission slip from their paranoid parents.

A man can dress up in a dog's outfit and come in to our schools and talk to the kids about drugs, but the President needs a hall pass?
We're are getting nuttier by the second.

i also am not an obama fan but something needs to be done to get the kids to do better in school.the drop out rate is just terrible.
i am a tennis addict and was watching that andre agassi has raised over 75 million dollars and has basically his own school system which is k-12th grade he just had his first graduating class with 100% graduates and all 100% are going to collage.
maybe the obama people should have a talk with him about how to run schools.
i dont have a problem with obama talking to the kids but as we all know it is because he always has another motive .
we just need to watch an see what he has to say first before we judge.
i think this guy is getting so unpopular now he is going to use the kids as pawns to make them feel so good after the talk the kids will go home and tell thier parent how nice he is.

Do away with the GED option and you will have kids not drop out. It is far easier to get a GED than graduate high school.....a speech is not going to change that. The reason it has not been a thread before this as we realize it is him just telling kids to stay in school. If it becomes more than that his approval rating will drop lower than it is now. Either way, those of us that do not share his views see this as not a big deal.

I think the question is what. Much like Health care reform. What could Obama say to really get through to kids at all? What study group did they use where kids responded so positively?
To be honest, I think schools are much more effective with their traditional 'stay in school' speaker. The guy who dropped out, but now is making tons of money/lovely wife, but "don't do like I do. Stay in school...."

heat i did hear that obey obama commercial yesterday.
now that is disturbing.
if that isnt brainwashing i dont know what is.
i guess we just have to wait and see what happens

also a suburb of dallas called lewisville a pretty big school district is not showing the speech,and fort worth is showing it but is giving activities out to students who dont want to see it.
i want to see how many students dont go to watch it.

Florida has some of the most controversial legislation (Elian Gonzales, Teri Schiavo, The 'Hanging Chad Incident' of 2000), and some of the most whacked-out governors (Jeb Bush is the lead whacko) that this country has ever seen.

Pretty much all the San Antonio School Districts are going to record the broadcast and make it available on their respective web sites, allowing the parents to decide whether to allow their kids to watch it or not. They're main reasoning is because of the time of day he's making the speech. Most of the schools are in one of their lunch breaks, and it's too hard to reschedule those.
