i dont own nor do i plan to own an "assult weapon" as it is now defined. however having said that i do not support this ban in any way shape or form. it is the first step. how long before they redefine what an assult weapon is and take away a few more of the guns we can own? they wont take our 2nd amendment away over night. it will happen little by little.....ever heard the expression "you give them an inch and they take a mile".

My God people need to learn history...
The founding fathers did not in any way set to limit gun ownership. They believed it was the right of the people to bear arms. They didn't say "you can't have the best quality gun, though... those are just for the military".
Furthermore, read and understand Letters of Marque and how the Founding Fathers used them. The freakin Constitution of the United States (Article 1 Section 8), of which so many of you seem willing to throw out, specifically calls for the right of the Government to use private citizens as their Navy! Are any of you trying to tell me the founding fathers allowed private citizens to outfit ships of war, yet would have limited assault rifles?

Come on Journey... you think this is unlimited? Do you think that people should also be able to purchase hand grenades and rocket launchers on the open market?
You equate this to our forefathers using muskets to fight their enemies!!! And who needs to learn a bit more about history?

Journey get out of that Iraqi sun, it's frying your brain.
Your interpretation of Article 1, Section 8 is hilarious. Please Oh please show me where it states in that decree that private citizens could own battleships. It declared that CONGRESS had the power to provide and maintain a Navy -- To provide and maintain a Navy.
It declares CONGRESS can form a militia (i.e. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines... Be All That You Can Be). -- To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress.
Letter of Marque
Archaic. A letter of marque was issued by a nation to a privateer or mercenary to act on the behalf of that nation for the purpose of retaliating against another nation for some wrong, such as a border incursion or seizure.

The reason they wanted its citizens to bear arms was to protect the country, since the military was unable to. This has no meaning in todays society, we have a very capable military, police, etc. to do the JOB.
If this is the case then how do you know that 30 years from now, an assault rifle may be needed to protect your grandchildren. Actually hopefully they will remove the right to bear children by that time and your bloodline will be cut off....Hopefully....
Ask any military official they will tell you that we would have a very difficult time even taking on a "Tiny"(in Barrack's words) country like Iran. Being as extended as our military already is..

v> YES! I believe I have the right to own a Sherman tank if I can afford it. I probably should have to register it, pay taxes on it, maybe even take a Tank 101 safety course.
But If I want one... I wish someone around here had a rocket launcher.

Fortune telling again? Please tell me tomorows lotto numbers while your at it.
JP, your attitude is a cowardly perception. It is one that make me soooo ashamed of many Americans today. Many are not willing to die for their freedom. Oh, they want to believe they have freedom. They aren't though at all very grateful for it. My ancestors have been here since 1660. My ancestors have spilled blood in every war all over the world defending Americans...ALL Americans even those who criticize and humiliate them for doing so. Cowards, like those that possess your frame of mind included.

RIGHT

Having rights repealed is a perfect example of the oppression you just mentioned, yet you fail to see it.
I met David Faber at a book signing a couple years ago. I think he would agree with me, that infringement on the right to bear arms is a very bad thing.
Germany is not some tiny third world country. Eccentric people rose to power and abused that power to control the population. This happened a mere 60 years ago...not medieval europe.

The 2nd Amendment is to protect citizens against a Tyrannical Government. It reserves our right to arms as citizens incase we ever shall need to protect ourselves against the Government. Surely we will here soon.
All I'm saying is, if you do not think another revolution is ever going to happen, your sadly mistaken or blind.

Wow... the Iraqi sun insult again... ouch. It hurt even worse this time... Bionic, any chance you'll ever participate in a civil discussion without trying to personally insult people?
You are wrong, btw.
Article 1, section 8 allowed Congress to provide Letters of Marques to "Privateers".
There are no restrictions listed as to how big of a warship the private citizen could maintain to perform as a Privateer. Thus, a private citizen could in fact have owned a Battleship and been employed by the Congress of the Founding Fathers.

Yes, you are right I am not willing to die for freedom, that is what we have a volunteer military for
