You say "The majority of people are not voting for him because of race"?!?!? Didn't he just win? Then the majority of people must have not voted for Hillary because she is a woman??? Why are we not looking at McCain vs Edwards???

Perhaps a lot of people voted for him because of his positions, perhaps McCain will win for the same reasons.
I'm trying to understand what you are saying or asking..
My position is that some of you are suggesting that black people are voting for him soley because he is black... I completely disagree because there have been other candidates who were black that didn't have success he has had... The truth is that the majority of his votes came from white americans.. and both black and white supporters believe he is the one best able to be the next President of the U.S.A.
This is more about what he brings to the table and his positions than race. All the candidates recieve votes based on their characteristics... however, their numbers are not significant enough to change the outcome of the election.

Well stated...

I agree in part with Clemson... Obama even acknowledge the fact that McCain refuses to acknowledge his achievements...even though he [Obama] praises McCain for his.
The key to this election is are you (people in general) willing to unify the party for the best interests of the USA. I don't believe we can afford another 4/8 years of Bush/McCain policy... if you are democrat..McCain policies are not in your best interests... So if you are a Clinton supporter... time to cut your loses and join the fight for the W.H. The problem with Clinton is she is too polarizing... she would not be a good choice IMO as Pres or VP. but because of her antics... Obama may have to take her.... her lack of humility and devisivness rang true again last night with her speech... Her political career is hanging in the balance because of her power trip and feeling of entitlement

True... but our differences are what makes us unique. We shouldn't deny them ...we can't hide them... we should embrace them for what they are...and that's it... the problem is that people attach feelings to the differences both good and bad... So I guess I'm trying to just say let differences be differences... and lets stop the attachments that come along with them.

Rylan1,
They won't give him the accolades he deserves; They should be saying "Congratulations Senator Obama.; but instead will say "Did you know his middle name is Hussein?"
...
WHat exactly has Obama done to set himself above the other 99 Senators? What remarkable legislative achevements has he accomplished to position himself as a first term senator in the national spotlight?

.
Do you think if you keep repeating this line it will become true? Remember Jesse Jackson who also got about 90% of the black vote? If this was the general election you could make the case that it is just the typical herd mentality voting pattern that has exhisted for years. In this case you have 2 Democrats with one getting 90% of the black vote. What issue seperates Clinton and Obama so far to explain the disparity?

Rylan1,
Let them all tell you he has no chance. These are the same people who rung in Mick Huckabee president after Iowa; the same people who think George Bush has done a smashup job; the same people who will tell you we're winning the war on terror...
They won't give him the accolades he deserves; instead they will tell you he is secretly a Muslim. They won't praise his efforts for running a clean campaign; instead they will say he only won because people hated Hillary that much more. They don't care he is the first minority to win a parties nomination; they are just scared that for the first time ever one of their own might not be calling the shots.
They should be saying "Congratulations Senator Obama.; but instead will say "Did you know his middle name is Hussein?"
Ignorance is deep rooted and takes time to change. This is at least a start...

What accolades does he deserve?
Ignorance is ignoring history by supporting a candidate that supports old liberal policies that have repeated failed and are repeatedly tried.

History does repeat itself only with different players.

*He's for Carter era "windfall" taxes (They worked so well the first time)
*He publically stated he would meet unconditionally with our enemies
*He served on a Board with a known, admitted, domestic terrorist
*He voted the most liberally
*He's actively promoting a Socialist agenda
*He wants to weaken our military
Sadly, he has set himself apart in many ways...

Regardless of your vote, America should be proud. You don't think its significant that every other person that has reached this has been a white male. I don't think people should be judged because of race... but to deny race exists is not what I am saying at all... We have differences... skin color, ethinicity, culture, etc... I think its important we continue to acknowledge those things that make us all different...just like men and women... but not to judge based on these things.. The differences are what makes us unique as Americans....the melting pot that we have with infused cultures from all over the world... makes us uniquely American.
So take for example a sports figure... Jackie Robinson... was he just another baseball player... or did his induction into the MLB change the future of baseball to include the very best players regardless of race? Before this moment in time the believe for manny based on history is that no one other than a white male can achieve the highest office.
and? is him being the first black person to win the nomination actually going to do anything? is it going to cause the price of gas and groceries to go down? is it going to cause the Jews and Palestinians to embrace each other? is it going to stop the genocide in Darfur? no, no, and no. he's a politician that won the nomination. his race should have nothing to do with it.
and there's no comparison imo between Obama and Jackie Robinson. no offense to Mr Robinson, but he was a baseball player, not trying to be leader of the free world.
but if you do want to make that comparison......Jackie Robinson got into the league and then proved himself to be a HOF player. if he's batted .200 with 2 HRs, not much would've been made of it. so if you really want to want to make the comparison, then you should wait until Obama actually becomes president and does something good with it. because if he gets there and becomes Jimmy Carter part 2, then being "the first black president" isn't going to amount to a hill of beans.

I think it's great that the country has gotten to the point where a black guy and a woman are duking it out to become a presidential candidate. Now we just just to pray to God Obama doesn't get elected.
As far as which had the highest hurdle to get past you should keep in mind that Black males had the right to vote before women did. It's pretty much a tossup as far as I can tell.

Unfortunately I don't think the rest of the world can afford a weak USA President. We saw what happened in the 90's when the President ignores world events.
