Ok. Rudest thing a customer has ever said to you.

Me "what are oyu going to do with them after the wedding"
Customer " any that dont get taken home with people we'll just flush, dont worry they will be fine."
the part that got me is "we'll just flush, dont worry they will be fine."

customer "I want that" points to blue ahli african cichlid 6" long
me " So I am assuming, you have a cichlid tank"
Customer "whats a cichlid?"
me "They are aggressive fish from the rift lakes of africa, they can only be kept with their own kind"
Customer "will it get along with my goldfish?"
me "they can only be kept with their own kind that cichlid will kill your gold fish"
Customer "oh posh. it will be fine. see how calm he is"
(the fish is in a tank by himself)
Me "sir that fish Will kill your goldfish"
at that point I refused to sell him the fish, after my shift ended he came back and bought the fish. two days later he tried to get the store to reimburse him for his dead gold fish. turned out it was a beautiful softball size red cap oranda. how that moron ever got a goldfish to get that large I will never know. I'm guessing he bought it large.

not as hilarious as the others but i did at one point have someone try to convince me that marine angels and freshwater angels could be kept together because "theyre like, the same thing, you know?"
scary part is...
i think they ended up trying it.

Customer: Its an all glass tank.
Me: I mean the type of water it lives in is marine, do you have a saltwater tank?
Customer: I'm not adding salt for a fish. it'll be fine.
Me: It wont survive in fresh water.
Customer: dont talk to me like I am an idiot. I have kept fish since I was ten.
Me: I'm sorry maam, I'm just trying to make sure you have the right stuff to keep the fish healthy.
Customer: Its my money, If it dies, whats it to you? Your job is to sell me the damn fish! Now bag it!
Me: sorry maam, but I cannot sell you the fish knowing it is going into fresh water that would be against the law. have a nice day.

I would be interested to see exactly which law that was breaking,. Must be a local ordinance, because if it was a federal law, most of the fish stores around here would be out of business with the owners locked up.

I would imagine it would fall under the same animal cruelty laws that are used to prosecute people who willfully hurt other animals like dogs and cats. Although it probably wouldn't get the attention that dead puppies draw. . .

I SOOO wish I was at the store one day when there was a flair up between a customer and one of the employees. Mind you, this employee was top notch - worked there for years and also at the aquarium here. I believe they were talking about Koi. Koi, of course, grow very large and are not really all that suitable for aquaria (large ponds are better). I think they may have had smaller koi in with another common pond fish, shubinkin's.
If I recall, the woman saw them and screamed "what the HE__ is going on here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and started a big argument with the employee about combining these two fish. The customer was outraged, with language to match. The employee was no pacifist, for sure, and the exchange ended with some one fingered salutes and an invitation for the customer to leave the store.
I would have loved to see that.

im pretty sure that georgia is the biggest in volume and fish population. i thought that "ocean voyager" was 6 million gallons not 2, or at least i thought thats what they said on the tour. regardless, if that was the only exibit it would still be the largest aquarium.
