I went to the Georgia Aquarium last month. The whale sharks were definately alive then. I would not reccomend going though, especially on a weekend. That place is so crowded that you can't look at anything for more than 2 seconds without pissing off the people behind you. Also, the reef tank they have doesn't have that many corals in it. If your going there to see saltwater tropical species, you will probably be dissapointed.

i work at a lfs that has some other pets including puppies. this was yesterday.
customer: can we go in and see the puppies?
owner: which one are you interested in?
customer: the little black one.
owner: that's fine, just put some GermX(sanitizer w/ CH3CH2OH) on.
customer: well, i'm not putting that on my kids. i saw on the internet that a little child died from putting a glob on his hands. his BAC got to 85%.
owner: well, i don't believe that.
customer: well, i bet the kids parents sure believed it! (storms out with the kids)
in complete awe, we watch the angry lady walking away. then she puts the kids in the car and comes running back into the store!
customer: I was going to buy a dog from you today, but not after you were so rude and inconsiderate to me! i can't beleive you don't give a d*** that child died.
owner: of course i would care if a child dies, and i didn't say i didn't trust you, i just said that i didn't beleive the story.
customer: you are the most inconsiderate and stubborn man that i have ever met!
owner: when Good Sam (local hospital) and all the clinics in town pull that off the counters, i will too.
costomer leaves.

thanks for the link. at least i know were this person might have got such info.
i know you realize site is a rumormill. the numbers have been blown out of proportion. i agree that if a small child were to ingest a couple pumps, they would be drunk. more than a couple pumps could turn into a health/life-threatening situation. by putting it on your hands, you are in no danger unless you lick the globs off before spreading it around. ethyl alcohol is pretty darn volatile.
it's just funny to me when a person with no background in such things sees something on the internet, or even the news, and takes normal life situations to the extreme. you're right though, wouldn't it be amazing if parents maybe took some responsibility?

you have to get there early. we got there when it opened and left around 2. it seemed like around 12 or so it got really crowded, but early on we practically had the place to ourselves. the reef in tropical diver used to be all artificial coral, and they're depending on donations for the live stuff. its going to take a while to fill that big tank (its only been like 2 years since it opened) but it will be nice once its done.

Ok, not a lfs story, but it's the rudest thing any customer has ever said to me.
I'm a young woman that works as a service advisor at a high-line car dealership. I've been there several years, and I'm damn good at my job. One day a woman calls and asks for some advice regarding her car (I don't remember exactly what the situation was, but it was something along the line of "is it ok to drive my car when the temp gauge needle is in the red?"). She didn't like the answer I gave her, so she asked the question again, only worded it slightly different. My answer remained unchanged. Since I didn't tell her what she wanted to hear, she got annoyed with me and said, "Can I please speak to a MAN?" I smiled and sweetly said, "Sure, no problem," and without hesitation, I slammed down the phone.

In the eight years I've been in this job, I've been yelled at, talked down to, and even threatened (hey, people get emotional over their cars), but that stands out in my mind as the rudest treatment by a customer.

I love 1st time parents.....
Here's the scenerio.....
I'm in triage. In walks in a dad and his 12-14month old child. He brought his child in for fever and vomitting. We treated his child, and sent him home with tylenol suppositories for fever control.
The next day, dad comes back to the ER with his son, and says that his son is not able to tolerate the tylenol suppositories. He said, "My son is having a hard time chewing up and swallowing these suppositories!!!"
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHHHHHHHHH!!!

Actually your BAC level can and will increase from permiation through the skin tissues. You can actually take a form of alcohol (vodka, gin, etc.) and hold it in your mouth without swallowing it and you could become intoxicated to some extent (although it takes a while). This however takes quite a long time to permiate and because the evaporation time on alcoholic ointments are so quick, there just isnt enough time for that to happen. You would have to take a bath in the stuff or something. Just a little medical background for ya haha!
Just wanted to add some UNuseful information to the humor of that story... That is a good one and I am glad that the owner stood by his policies.

I unlocked the door to the pet store to open, there is a customer standing in front of it, the store hours are clearly labled on the door, Its also 9 am on the button, the customer is wearing a watch, still he asks "when do you open?"
Gene police "YOU OUT OF THE POOL!"
What ever happened to common sense?

This isn't really LFS-related, but my dad once got into a 10-minute-argument with a cashier because they undercharged him.
