I'm a softie for the grandkids...They are not to blame for the parents.
NOPE...they are not, but a lot of the times their parents make it sooooo hard.....
What is it with kids these days that they think we owe them....You know what...they should owe us for all the nasty diapers, snot filled noses, sleepless nights,
I'm telling you....I sure hope I NEVER have to be cared for....because I can guarantee you....my selfish kids would not do it....they are all (most of them are) ME ME ME
I have worked since the day I turned 16....never "expected" anything from anyone. My parents were well-to-do...BUT...we got only what we NEEDED...if we WANTED something....we had to work for it. I tried really hard to instill that into my kids.....NOPE....didn't work....Sometimes I think most of them (3 out of 4) were switched at the hospital

2 years ago we sent the kids a 46 inch Plasma TV for Christmas. Neither kid said thank you. Guess I should have gotten the 55 inch

My daughter insists she would take care of me...I told her I would rather go to a rest home. After seeing how she cares for the children, I may be better off with wolves in the zoo...they at least feed their young.
My granddaughter woke me up once when they were staying with me, she was hungry and her mom wouldn't get up out of bed to give them (3 kids) anything to eat...I work night shift..it was 1:00PM I got up and fed them. The oldest child (now 14) cooks for the younger ones.
I could go on but I'm sure you get the idea of how they live. She nor her husband work.
I didn't raise them like that. I worked at 13 - 15 as a babysitter, then to get the Taco Bell job I lied and said I was 16, then I lied and said I as 18 to get the railroad job...34 years later and I still work there.

You're making that up. We all know you aren't old enough to have 4 kids.

Best Buy has awesome sales right now! I was going to get a 32 for my room but got a 42 for less money. Whoo-hoo!
Flower, do you work for CSX?
My daughter has a strong work ethic and wants to make her own way. We went to Halloween Horror Nights last night and I bought everyone's tickets online. Two of the adults haven't paid me but my daughter put her check in my wallet when I picked her up.
My oldest son however, worries me. He wants things he has no means of purchasing. He wants a new truck. Rather than looking at something he can afford, he is looking for $40,000 ones. He also seems to have an odd sense of entitlement. He thought he should get a week off for his birthday because the boss did. Um, hello.......... He won't wear things unless they have a "name", yet I will find shoes he had to have, destroyed riding around in the back of his truck in less than a month. He has only been working for about 6 months and thinks he deserves a raise, blah, blah, blah. Blows my mind.
I don't know how I got one that is so level headed and one that is running with scissors!

Before my son deployed I sent the wife down to Florida, took the son's family to DIsney World. We paid for the Tickets (which were a good deal with his military discount) and the hotel rooms and meals. When we were arranging the whole thing my kid says they plan on staying at least a week. I told him we'd pay for the days the wife would be there which was going to be 5. Suddenly they didn't need to be there a week or more.
So what the heck, might as well air a little more dirty laundry. While the kid is deployed he gets his "combat" pay which is about 900.00 a month extra. His wife left the base housing and is living with her parents so they also get 1100.00 a month extra for housing. Yet in the last 2 weeks I've gotten phone calls from their car loan company and cell phone company trying to track them down to collect past due bills. They have more than 4 grand a month coming in, TAX FREE because he's in a combat zone and they can't make their payments to the point I am getting phone calls from people trying to find them???
First I was upset, then I was mad, now I am just amused. They must have some expensive drugs where she is living.
Doesn't do any good to get mad. Just gotta hope they don't splat when they hit bottom.

How about giving the older son $60 to feed the younger son dinner and see a movie last night while I took my sister out to HHN for her birthday. My younger son doesn't like the scary stuff but was disappointment he couldnt' go so I thought pizza and a movie would be a distraction.
Get a text from younger son who was alone at 11:00 when he woke saying, "I'm hungry". Older son not only didn't take younger son to the movies, but left him alone, didn't feed him, and pocketed the cash.
Granted, there was plenty of food. He's 12 and can make a sandwich but it's the point of it all.

After taking people all day to and from, they park the trains at night and I clean them. I have been cleaning coaches for 34 years it's a monkey job, but I make 22+ an hour..and iget double time and a half on holidays, 5 weeks vaction, 5 personal days and 3 sick days....and if I don't get hurt...1 to 2 personal safty incentive days
LOL...I would have money if I didn't have a fish tank.

I worked for CSX Intermodal for a few years part time before moving into trucking ops and then leaving them to go out on my own. They are my biggest customer.
I enjoyed working with the rail system. My job was far from glamorous but the benefits, even for part time were amazing!

I must admit the Railroad has been good to me. That’s why I stuck with it all these years. I’m not college educated, and to be honest it’s about the best I could do, I got married right out of high school and started my family.

I don't think it's exactly that. I think most young people would put work in, if their desires were meet. I think a lot of younger people view the world today with a 'why bother' attitude. Why bother that they would work their tail off at some entry level position, only to be able to afford a crappy car and a 1-bedroom apartment. I think a lot of younger people are pretty shortsighted in this regard. We want nice things and we want them now. Watch a couple episodes of House Hunters. Any young couple on there, expects granite countertops, wood floors, etc...
