Nathan don't be discouraged by how people react to your questions. Keep in mind a lot of the frequent posters at SWF.com deal with these questions on a daily basis. No joke, its always the same questions over and over again - look at the first two pages of this forum and i bet 40% of the questions are related. The issue isn't you, the issue is at some point you get tired of people not researching. Again this isn't your fault, it is just the impatients of others (myself included so don't get pissy guys
) because we deal with these same questions and mistakes all the time.
Just keep asking questions and slow down. Keep asking us questions, but only on one post. That is the other thing, only do one post at a time, because you end up getting answers from 5 different directions.
Read and ask questions, thats all you can do - oh and don't buy anything for your tank for a while

Remind me to delete my profile from this place because igoramic morons like this with 6500+ posts should realize that LFS dupe people into sales who are not knowledgeable.
You sir are a waste of time and space

Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I don't understand why some posters find it necessary to talk down and name call people who come on here desperatly in need of help.
If that is the responses where somebody as nathanrudy9 desperatly needs he doesn't need to be preached down to, because he makes either a bad choice or a mistake. Not everybody is a wiz at this and to preach down before you have all the facts is nonsense.
If these SWF lifers don't appreciate it...so be it...
I can always find another board to get info from....and another place to buy my supplies at.

#1 - Tangs DO NOT do well in 55G tanks !! They need at least 125G or larger due to their swimming nature..
I agree with everything but this! You CAN start tangs in a smaller tank nothing smaller then a 46g bowfront, but 55g be better, but the tang must be small. BUT in the near future you need to consider upgrades for your tank! Unless you've tried it, don't knock it. There's several others would tell you the samething. I've been keeping small tangs in my 55 for the past three years without issues. And I move them into the 90g bowfront when they get bigger, then eventually a gigantic tank very soon.....

I got mine from Cooltouchlighting, google search them. I just tried their server, but I think they're having issues.....I run 2-175w 14k MH and 2-110w VHO Super Actinics...I like the system, but I wouldn't purchase timers from them, they rip you off on that part. You can get the same exact timers at Homedepot for 1/3 of the price they charge.

I think that it is a bit much with 740 Watts. You gauge how intense and wattage, by how deep the tank is...and what you want to put into it.
Anemomes might like it, but it might be to intense for some corals.
Also I'm finding out that MH's aren't just costly in the initial purchase. You may run into bulbs loosing attintic coloring (turn pinkish) or blown out bulbs. I had my Sunpod for 4 months now and both bulbs were toasted. 1 within a month and 1 just last week. Plus the replacement warrenty bulb lost it's intensity so I had to replace that too.
250 Watt double sided run about 75 bucks a bulb.

The system I recommend would work just fine. It allows you to keep all kinds of corals and anemones. It's a hood system with moon lights as well and acrylic shield for protection and fans to keep it cool. I've been running this system for 3 years so far without any issues. Of course bulb replacement when it's time to do so.

I would list what you want to put into your tank and research first.
Clams love intense lighting and some corals do not.

I think I paid like $600 something for it, but the last time I checked, the prices have gone up to $700 something I think. IF you go back up you'll see my post about this lighting system. It does not sit on your tank, you have to hang it from your ceiling. You must get someone to help you with it cause it is quite heavy....VHO Actinics....

Most of the everyday corals you see in LFS are pretty much light craver. You don't see much that don't need a lot of lighting.
