Thanks Fishymama...the rocks with the mushroom came from a friend of mine who wanted to take some rock out of her tank. The mushrooms were on her rock from an established tank. I feel very fortunate to have that rock in my tank with it being as new as it is. It makes my tank look older than it really is. The mushrooms are nice and will work with my lighting. I may get some other varieties. I actually new growth appearing on one of the rocks...I think it is another mushroom.

...I have just added two nice false percula.....they look great...one is actually mis-barred. He looks really cool. The stripe on his side isn't complete on one side and the stripe on his tail just barely comes together on the other side. I will post some pictures as soon as I get the opportunity. They are happily swimming around and have already eaten....

Well...this is a diary so I need to share some weird turn of events. This morning when I turned on the lights to my tank, I discovered that my featherduster looked strange. The head was laying on the bottom of the tank. I had read that they lose their crowns once in awhile, I looked closer and the whole worm had come out of its tube. I thought he was a goner. I fished it out to discover it was still alive. I put it back in the tank where I found it and decided just to leave it be and see what happened during the day.
I came in this evening and found the crown sticking out of the live rock down at one end of the tank. The worm has crawled down the tank and found a hole in the live rock. I have no idea if it is going to make it, but it seems to have found a new home in the live rock ans surviving at the moment. I will keep you updated.
In addition, I have a green chromis with a bad case of vertigo...he is all sideways. I figure he is also a goner. No idea what has happened. the water is fine. I just checked this morning. I went to feed the fish and this fish quickly made his way to the surface and is eating like a bandit. I have never seen a fish on what seems to be the edge of death, eating well. I have no idea what is wrong with him. I don't think he will make it, but found it very odd he was eating. I will continue to monitor and keep you updated
Has anyone seen either of these very odd occurrences?

. Not sure what happened with these two, but it happened. water is still doing fine and tank looks good.

It's been awhile since I have updated. Still bummed about the featherduster...figured the bristleworms got him in that big piece of live rock he was hiding in...
anyway....there is a new addition in my QT tank...A Coral Beauty. Just has stunning colors and is eating well. Will try to post a pic soon. In addition, I have added a protein skimmer to my set-up. The water in my DT is good shape and is extremely clear. Had a near miss....while installing the protein skimmer, I had one of my clowns jump out of the tank. I have no idea how long he had been out, but he was not moving when I put him back in the tank. I thought he was a goner......well, he was moving slowly, revived and ate. 24 hours later you would never know he was out of the water.

Your tank looks very nice. I have to ask though, what kind of lights do you have. Reg florecent lights, even with the spectum bulbs you have may not suport the corals you are putting in there. It may be ok for shrooms, and that may even be questionable. but zoos need at least power compacts. you might want to research this more. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for your response....I am setting this tank up as a fish FOWLR, but some of the LR already had mushrooms attached when I added it to my tank. I am not adding any soft corals, but the current ones that are already established are doing well. I have some new growth items which is very promising. My aptashia seems under control and my cleaner crew seems to be doing well with the algae. I am not ready at this point to go to the next step and add corals (although I would love too). I do have standard lights, 18K 4' bulb and (2) blue actinics.....maybe I will get some new ones for christmas

Learning about the fish and taking care of them has been a great experience. It has taken some time up front, but I can tell I am going to love this hobby...btw..already have my sights set on a yellow watchman...they are cool

Time for an update. The coral beauty is in my DT and doing very well. the colors are outstanding. nice fish. In addition, I have added a yellow watchman goby and a royal gramma. The watchman is scared of the coral beauty, but has found a nice little home and is eating well. I wish his home was more towards the front of the tank so i can watch him, but they do choose where they feel most comfortable. he is a cool fish.
The royal gramma also looks great and the colors are outstanding. He found a nice hole right in front and hangs out in the center of my tank. he is also eating well. he has let my yellowtail damsel know who is boss. At this point I am going to hold off on adding any more fish. All my fish seem to get along well and I do not want to over crowd it.
He is an updated list:
1 coral beauty
2 false percs
1 royal gramma
1 yellowtail damsel
4 green chromis
1 yellow watchman goby
1 peppermint shrimp
1 cleaner shrimp
3 scarlet leg hermits
2 blue leg hermits
1 emerald crab
1 hawaiian zebra hermit
3 large astrea snails
2 nass snails (have not seen in a while)
Hopefully I can post some more pics soon

I would say that you should check out the "big

[hr]
site" and see if you can find a Power Compact light for your tank at the very least. They are relatively cheap (and you will probably upgrade again, but at least the shrooms will love it) and you will definitely love the difference it does make in your tank. I have PC lighting on my 55g but I will be getting MH lights here shortly. My 55g is going from a FOWLR to a reef, as I now have a 220g for a FOWLR tank. If you ever have any questions, ask away, there will always be someone on to answer them! Your aquascaping looks great!
