Police brutality or citizen stupidity?

120 pounds on which leg

Like I said upthread, it's pretty easy to look at a video and say he should have done this or that but put yourself in his shoes. I give him props for not pulling his gun. If a person attacks a cop that person should expect a retaliatory response, be it pepper spray, taser a bullet or getting punched. Man or woman doesn't matter.

How about some props for that guy in the blue? He tried to control the girl in the pink that got punched, but to no avail. He could have made the situation worse then it needed to be, but choose the high road, pretty impressed.
Guy in blue was the only one who comes out of that looking good.

If that would have happened here in Texas...both of those women would have ended up shot...case closed!!! Cops don't play...they can't afford to.
+1 for the Officer
+1 for the guy in blue

Not all men can throw a woman around. Dude is a little wee man. Probably a dork in high school. Power hungry dork at that. This was probably his first real fight and you can almost tell. Any man with some size its game over. Most men who punch a woman lay them out if they have some size and power. That punch did nothing but freak that girl out.

This girl is an Angel Let me tell you. Down piece of Garbage that needs to be locked up for about 10 years.
What angels…
Rosenthal appeared Tuesday in King County Juvenile Court, where supporters said that she lives at the Virginia Miller House, a residential facility with behavior-modification programs for teen girls, but was in contact with her family. It's unclear why the girl is not living with her family...
Rosenthal was charged in November with second-degree robbery. According to prosecutors, she punched a 15-year-old boy in the face while she and a group of youths were on their way to a rave in South Seattle last Aug. 28. The boy told police that his cellphone and $20 were stolen in the incident. A 14-year-old boy told police that he was punched in the head and his hat was stolen.
Authorities say the case was dismissed when the boys refused to testify.
In April 2008, Rosenthal was charged with third-degree theft after she allegedly stole a minivan in Tukwila, prosecutors said. Kent police said she used a screwdriver to break the ignition and start the vehicle.
The charge was later amended to theft of a motor vehicle. Rosenthal was given a deferred disposition — charges would be dropped if she stayed out of trouble — because it was a first-time offense, said Ian Goodhew, deputy chief of staff for Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg.
Levias was charged in February 2009 with third-degree assault after she allegedly pushed a King County sheriff's deputy down.
According to charging documents, on Feb. 3, 2009, deputies were called to the Ruth Dykeman Children's Center, a Burien center for troubled girls, in response to a report that Levias was being abusive toward staff. When Levias was confronted by Deputy Amy Zarelli, she pushed the female deputy, causing her to fall, charging papers said.
Levias was given a deferred disposition because it was a first-time offense, Goodhew said.

If you can't restrain a 120lb woman, how you can be expected to wrestle a 240lb drug dealer, burglar, etc?

.
It is not unusual under these situations for it to require many many big burly cops to subdue 100 pounds weaklings or gals.
100% behind the cops on this. When your arms are in full use blocking punches you do whatever is required to free an arm and get the situation under control. Then reach for the mace, taser, cuffs and so on. This policeman was being assaulted by two violent people. If you don't want to be punched by the cops don't assault them.
Any human being deserves that respect cop or not.
Again they are lucky all they got was a single punch.
The policeman showed great discilpline in this case.

He punched her? Really? All the training and that's the best he could come up with?
Makes no difference to me if it's a man or woman though.

Certainly with the cop on this, the punch may not have been the route I would have gone, rather a good arm bar and facial smash to the hood of the car would have been better.
Agree with what Crypt said earlier, in inner cities you see deadbeats jaywalking all the time and taking their sweet time just daring someone to hit them. It's dangerous and causes accidents.

When you are young and stupid you do stupid things. When I was a kid there was a group of gang bangers doing their cross, I was in my moms Chrysler Newport which had a 383 magnum in it. That thing made an impressive roar when you kicked in passing gear. You had the bangers doing the slow walk looking at me like you know best to stop. Pretty quick they reached the conclusion that I couldn't stop if I tried and shifted into B for Boogie. Laughed our butts off at the time but damn, if one of them had waited a few seconds longer I would have killed them. Like I said, young and stupid, on both sides in that case.

Hey I live in corpus!
My personal opinion is that I believe in equal rights and treatment for woman. Hence what is the big deal? Imo the real question is what the crap took him so long? A tazer needed to come out, or the gun! Taking 2-3 minutes of wrestling with a stupid woman considering the crowd around him. That needed to be handled quickly and with absolute force. But my original reaction being said, he got them arrested, no one was really hurt, he walked away. And that is the ultimate goal for the officer so o well.

I would have agreed with the tazer... I don't agree with the school yard punch.
I don't believe in the "A cop's got to do what a cop's got to do" stuff. Risky jobs don't give you the right to inappropriate actions. That guy needed more training. His containment skills are less than adequate and he made up for it will a punch. Makes him look pathetic, IMO. He created his own risks... look at the cars stopping on the side!! And he actually should have considered that this was a woman. Not because a woman deserves different treatment, but because of how the people would react around him. He escalated the danger level of that situation 10-fold.
The cop put everyone at risk with his inadequate skills. He deserves the punch. IMO, of course :)

After the punch the cop did demonstrate some pathetic containment skills but up until then he really hadn't had much of a chance before the delinquent jumped into the fray.

He was tugging on the hands of the girl in the brown/blue in the first 10 secs like they were fighting for a bridal bouquet.

I didn't read all of the post here, but I'm nuetral on the punch. Now as far as the rest of the video, the cop was a moron. He should have face planted her arse into the concrete after about 5 seconds of dealing with that. If anyone in the group reacted and came any closer after doing so, he had a sidearm. By playing dancy fancy with her, he made himself look like a fool. I'm sure he was trying to be gentle (since it was a female), but he could have commanded that crowd and situation in under 30 secs.

Like I said not all Men are strong enough to whip a girl into shape like you all say. You make it sound so easy. A pissed off woman can throw down. This is why in my belief certains jobs should have certain requirments. Women should not be lifeguards policemen and or firemen. Most do not have the physical ability to get the job done. Now Men should have to be able to do certain task and be able to handle certain situations. This cop should be put on desk duty. He is gonna get killed on the street. Any man with decent size and build would have whipped his tail. The punch was a reaction. I agree with it. Stupid girl should had just listened to her male friend who was pulling her away.

A tazer would have ended that pronto.... but I guess we reserve that for teenagers running across baseball fields.
