Q on Lemon juice on Aiptasia

I purchased peppermint shrimp, it worked for a short time..Maybe they died, I never saw them after putting them in the tank, but now the aiptasia is back. I can't afford aiptasia X, they want $18.00 for a tiny bottle and it keeps coming back..
I have read on the site a few times that lemon juice works. I have some of that concentrated in a squeeze bottle stuff. I also have lemons.
Do I remove the rock to try and kill the aiptasia on it (which is not an option)? If not, then how bad is lemon juice on a reef system full of coral? I am doing a water change today and I would like to kill the aiptasia..I have 3 that I noticed so far.
I need details ASAP because I want to start the water change and do everything at once..
..Boiling water? How do I go about that? The moment I get water in a syringe, climb up the step latter and locate the offending critter, the water is cooled.
Some type of coral is on all the rock in the tank. I can't remove it.
Thanks for any help!

100ml distilled water, 1 teaspoon Red Devil lye (sodium hydroxide), and 2 teaspoons calcium hydroxide (kalkwasser). Mix well and use a PD-Tip or dispensing syringe. Turn off water flow and let sit for one hour before turning flow back on.
Note: This mixture is also effective in killing just about anything you put it on, including out of control xenia, polyps and even some hair algae types.

I need something on lemon juice, I have that in the house.
I will keep your recipe, and when I venture to the store again I will pick up what I need to make it. So thank you.

The grand total of Aiptasia I have had in all these years is like 4...
All on rocks that could be removed with ease.. Ripped at them with needle nose trying to dig down as far under them as I could then squirt some lemon juice on them and let it soak for about 5 min. then rinse in RO water..

I can't do that. I have coral on everything. I was afraid I couldn't use it in the tank. I guess I will leave the little stingers alone till I can get to the store. Disturbing them makes them spread.
Thanks for the quick help..
What about boiling water...whats the trick to that?

You can use it in the tank as far as I know.. Would more than likely be less effective but still better than not doing anything..

You lost me...are you saying I can use the lemon juice like Joes juice? I thought you explained to remove the rock first and then rinse with RO water after...

I don't want to poison my tank.

Flower..I had ONE sstinkin aptasia in my 225G I tried the lemon juice and the boiling water....neither worked for me
I got some Joe's Juice, and it was dead instantly....never to be seen again. I do not think it is that expensive either....IMO you should try to get that

LOL.. I just rinse as a precaution to remove any spores (gamets) that might still be there.. No real reason behind it.. Just made me feel better..
It will work underwater I would imagine..cant see it doing too much damage with a syringe in a localized area..

LOL..I just sent you a PM.
I have had Joes juice...it dried up and the only place to get it is to order it. I purchased Aiptasia X...very expensive and it came back. The peppermints helped for a few months. The aiptasia is back again. only see 4, but it can spread and I don't want that.
Actually I am procrastinating doing my water change. Pretending to find an answer to the Aiptasia before I start...LOL
How do I use the lemon juice safely?

When I used the lemon juice, I just put about 1cc in a syringe and tried to get it into the mouth of the aptasia....1st time it stayed away for almost 2 weeks (guess it was hiding) 2nd time it stayed away for 5 days....With the boiling water it had no effect
the joe's juice had an instant result.....I would probably order some more....surely they won;t spread in a week....

Thanks. I will give it a try. I don't mess with the tank except on water changing day once a month. On that day I move power heads if I need to, kill bad things, and change any unhappy corals to see if the can do better in another spot.
I will use the lemon juice for now then and order more Joes juice for the next water change.

Thanks for your help but when you say "I imagine" it tells me that you are not all that sure. When it comes to my tank...I must be sure...LOL
Thank you! Both of you!

Flower,
Finally I get to help you instead of the other way around :)
I don't know about the lemon juice. I only tried it on one aiptasia and all it did was suck in and came back out later so I chalked it up to not working. had 3 peppermints and they went MIA after a couple days, never saw them actually eat one. Allthough they went crazy for a piece that was dropped into thier tank at the LFS.
SOOOOooo onto what worked for me.
I bought 100 lbs of live rock for 75 bucks about a month ago. the only downside was that it was FILLED with aiptasia probably about 200 or more. some huge, some just teny tiny.
Finally after trying all the cheap methods with no results I found a site that bosted kalk mix as the answer and not only that but they said you can make it out of mrs wages pickling lime which is about 4 bucks for a 20 lifetime supply of the powder. Just mix it up to a paste thats fine enough to get syringed through you applicator but you don't want it watery so that it doesnt stick to the rocks either.
it works just like aiptasia x just get them to touch the tip and they think its food and then just paste it on thier little faces. they will sometimes be quick enough to retreat back into thier holes so just cover the hole with the paste. Leave it on there for about 45 minutes and then suck the little bugger out with a turkey baster.
there are a bunch of reasons why I beleive this is the best option...
1.) you cover thier oral disc so they can't blow out thier little spawn seed all over the tank and make babies.
2.) you actually remove them from the tank
3.) kalk mix is widley used (in moderation) for helping with calcium and PH levels in tanks anyways.
4.) you usually get most of the mix you pasted on the bad guy back up i the turkey baster with the baddie so its not flying all over your tank.
5.) its super cheap and easy to make
make sure and turn your power heads off first so they don't blow the paste all over on your other corals.
I treated my LR in a 55 gallon tank that was seperate from my actual 90 gallon becuase I didnt want to introduce the aiptasia into my system. but the LR i got had a kenya tree, a nice chunk of green star polyps, ricordia, a rose bubble tip anemone and a few brown mushrooms in there while I was treating. the only thing that didnt survive were the aiptasia :)
also had a bunch of snails and crabs that came witht he rock that stayed in the tank and I found my peppermint shrimp still alive on the bottom of the tank when I fianlly moved the rocks out to put in my display tank.
Good luck, hope this helps

Never all at once. I take the time throughout the year. Your right, I wouldn't go back!
I can even split 2 of the vaction weeks into days, which really helps if my back goes out. I made it through last year without my back messing up...I hope for the same this year!

As in I Imagine
I cant see where it would hurt.. the key factor with lemon juice is that its acidic as hell.. If I can put lye in a tank with no ill effects I cant see lemon juice causing any problems..
Trust me.. Im more cautious with add things to my tank than 90% of people here...

34 years? I can't even make it through 1 year at a job before getting bored and changing. I've been at my current job for 6 months, am already bored, and will be starting a new job in January to change it up.
