Hey Cal, youre on youre way! Great rock set up, i think it looks really good. How many lbs of LR do you have in there now? I agree in that letting your system run for a couple days with the LR and check your tests. Then you can add the raw shrimp if you dont see any ammonia to help pop the cycle. Thats what I did with mine, though I am on my 2nd raw shrimp because I never got an ammonia spike from the 1st shrimp. It's all about testing every couple days and making adjustments. Just send us the results of your tests and I'm sure we all will help you out best as we can. Good luck

Ok I just added 5 more lbs. of cured live rock and now my total live rock is 30 lbs.

I did a water test:
PH - 8.1
Nitrate - 0
Nitrite - 0
Amonia - 0
I hope thats good for the start?

Took some new pictures with my new 5lbs. of LR(30lbs. total). I also place another ph in the back right corner blowing current across the back glass. Hopefully i have the ph's placed in the right directions?
My temp. is 79 degress. (stays about the same)
I'm going to put a piece of uncooked shrimp in 2morrow and see if that helps my cycle out.

Just thought i would add another picture

that looks like something out of never ending story.. lol..
you're getting there though.. the first pic from post 24 looked pretty good... just try to maximize caves and openings and get some height without instability... also you can get better flow through the rock by getting it off the back wall leaving like a 2 inch gap between rock and wall... maybe 3inches.

Oh yeah and i'm pretty much sold on doing a species only frogfish. That tank just seems perfect for one. =)

btw the 2 inch gap thing is entirely up to you... I just like it because in my tanks it allows more areas for the fish to swim and move openings and caves for them... versus just swimming back and forth in front of a line of sight scenery of rock that never changes.

Yeah nice video liked it...I hope there not that hard to get eating...
live white shrimp or mysis should entice one right away... if big enough, you could always sacrifice a damsel lol... best bet is to get them eating things like silversides and other meaty sw "fixins" off a feeding stick.

Can i put blue leg hermits in there with him? or what other cuc?
I don't do crabs anymore.. I only do snail based cucs...
I like a mix of astreas, turbos, nassarius, and ceriths... you could probably do a tongan fighting conch too.. I dunno if anglers/frogfish will attack and eat snails, but they'll definitely go for shrimp.

Yeah i will stick to snails more than likely...there the safest bet...and you put all your cuc in there first right? Can you buy them all at once or just some at a time because of the bioload?

I let there be algae on the rocks and diatoms on the sandbed, then toss them all in at once.. just don't over do it.. you'll probably only need 8 nassarius, 8 ceriths, 8 astreas, 4 turbos, and the tongan fighting conch.
you don't want any cuc animals starving...so buying a 100 of each is not a good idea long term..
you can always adjust as necessary.. essentially you don't want barren rocks, but you don't want alot of growth either.
