I have the Red Sea Max 130D model and I love it. The 130D model does
not need some of the mods that the original 130 needed. The skimmer is awesome, the lighting is great. Many owners have had great success growing all kinds of coral with these lights. I am a newbie to this hobby, and an old lady, LOL. Therefore, I did not want to deal with refugium's or sumps or HOB filters. I wanted everything self-contained, and that is what the RSM 130D is. I purchased mine from marineandreef.com, and it included the stand, the Start-Up Kit (including substrate, salt, test kit), and the shipping was free.
Welcome to saltwater and thank you for the info! I wanted everything self contained also, I just didn't have it in me to build another larger one. I'm also tooo old to be lifting buckets & buckets of water for water changes. Less buckets with a smaller tank. I had a 65 a few years back. I think that's one of the reasons I gave up. Tooo much upkeep. I have a 55 that's setting empty; I think I'll do it fresh water.
