They are one of the easiest reptiles to take care of, IMO. I hated reptiles, but when I moved in with my now husband, he had one. I fell in love and we quickly bought a second. We ended up giving the baby away to our friend who's tortoise died, and he's doing great with her. Our older one just died last week at 9 years old. They're like having a dog. Very docile and social. They'd sit on our shoulders as we walked around the house or just lay in our lap while we watched tv.
Don't feed them the pre-made pellet garbage that stores sell for them. We fed ours superworms, crickets and romaine lettuce. Romain lettuce regularly and the we switched back and forth between the super worms and crickets. Reptivite (vitamins) on the lettuce and superworms. Crickets make them more jumpy and aggressive so try not to feed them that often.
They also don't need crazy light requirements. Just a warm, dry tank. And give them stuff to climb on. AND, they're not slimy like some other icky lizards, LOL.

Sometime, this week, I'm supposd to recieve a new shipment. Ending up being the proud second owner of a male Retic. He's coming from a wounded Iraq war vet, who lost both of his arms and isn't able to care for his snakes anymore. He's forced to get rid of it and wants me to take him. He's supposedly 16' long and a little over 100lb.

i used to be a reptile dude. had a 6' iguana in my teens. now, i'm terrified and for some reason i'm real sensitive to their smell. as far as these pythons and boa's are concerned: at what age/ length do they develop teeth? i mean: at what age/ length do their bites pack a punch?
2 minutes old

Your cat and your snake get along? When I had a cat, he'd get a couple snakes in a yard a week.

odie got along with all our snakes when she was alive. she was the most non hunter of all our cats. none of our other cats would do that, they would try and kill the snake. its just one of those things when you know your pets really well you know what rules you can bend. its definatly not something I would reccomend anyone try with their snake and cat.

lol, that is funny, you named your cat a dog name. And she wouldn't hunt snakes either.

Beth, if you ever need to get rid of anything, you just let me know. I'll never turn down snakes that need a home.
This new monster Retic I'm getting, from the wounded vet, is coming from El Paso, TX...I'm paying $200, out of my own pocket, to have him shipped here.
