I'd give it a shot for sure wax32, if possible try to get smaller mysis. I've seen them in too sizes in frozen form and even though my scooter still eats them he sure does like the smaller ones more.

Here's a picture of mine a few days after I got him months ago. You can see how he's fattened up.

Jerthunter , your scooter looks great. You can tell he's got some weight on him by seeing the end of his tail where it turns into fin. From the top view if it's wide like yours he's not starving.

also one problem i had is that some dont seem to see the food, so i have seen garlic added and for some reason that sparks a feeding response and they normaly end up getting more food. wax try this out and see if its worth it.. who knows your mandarin could realy benifit from it. cool.

Mandarin feeding attempt #1: no good. The other fish all went bananas and pigged out. Even my orange spot blenny which I have never seen eat prepared foods took some. The mandarins pretty much ignored it.

Hrm,
Did you use a syringe or something like that to put the food in front of him?

Maybe your Mandarin's are just so happy with what you have available on the rocks they aren't interested in the mysis. I'll try to get a picture of how I feed my scooter with an eyedropper. He comes up the side of the tank to a corner.
Here, where my clown is now.

AWESOME! Great picture Mr_Bill.. I think scooters are much better looking then the other more popular dragonets.

I agree, they are so overlooked compared to all the super bright colored fish most people have in thier tank.
I was feeding my anemone some regular chunks of raw cocktail shrimp last night and my scooter wouldn't leave my food scewer alone so I pinched off a small mysis shrimp sized chunk and he sucked that up like nobody's business. I gave him a few more chunks until his belly started to bulge.
Does yours follow you around the tank when your moving rocks or things?

No, he doesn't follow me around but he doesn't mind me at all even if I am making a mess rearranging my tank. He just goes about his business of scooting..

Not a scooter but it's a dragonette!
After I do my water change tomorrow I will attempt the garlic and mysis again, I'd really like to get my mandarins eating stuff other than pods!

Hey Wax32, do you have something like an eye dropper? I use one from a used up test kit that never had anything but tank water in it. My scooter associates anything long and narrow with a free meal now I think.
At first he was very shy of the eye dropper, but if you just move slowly and also don't just fire the shrimp out all at once... fire one or two shrimp at a time out very slowly right in front of them.
