When I type the post it just says hi, that is all I'm saying, originally I just typed Hi, then I found the hi smiley…...I didn't expect it to become anything but kind of signature...if I get rid of it now too many people complain. I tried to just drop it once, nice and quiet but it didn't go unnoticed.
So what can do now, but accept it?... The only other icon that matches me would be this guy..
..LOL..I use the clueless icon allot too.

I never understood people who feel the need to put formailties into their posts. In my opinion, threads are like ongoing conversations. It would be the same if I was talking to my wife, and every time I said something, I started with "Hi" and ended with my name (like fishtaco)....
Me: "Hi. What time is it? Nick."
Jenna: It's 3pm, why are you talking weird?"
Me: "Hi. It's because I want to live a day in the life of flower. Nick."
Jenna: "Who's flower? That's strange."
Me: "Hi. Flower is a person on my SWF forums who says 'hi' at the beginning of each of her comments. Nick."
Jenna: "Well, isn't it an ongoing conversation though?"
Me: "Hi. Yes it is. Nick."

Now, if you mean "Hi" as if you're raising your hand in a classroom-type forum, then it's entirely too formal IMO. Chillax!

Hey! That makes sense...so just say the (hi) when I first join the conversation...maybe that will make everyone happy...

Well when you are trying to have a conversation, I can see how it would get bothersome. I would think a little icon would just fade into the background like an avatar picture. I chose a very bright flowery wave and nobody even notices. One person mentioned it a long time ago.
All I really want is to get along with the folks on this site, learn about my ocean critters and hang on to online friends like you. LOL...I have one poor soul who wants to run into traffic, that can't be good.

The wave annoys me, because you do it, then lecture somebody in your post. Making it condescending..Ditch it.

I don't think it is the wave, but the lecture and the condescending....I had no idea I came off like that. So I will work on it and do better. If I have hurt anyone’s feelings doing that ..I apologize.
Majority rules on the wave and for those that voted to ditch it..if I can keep up with them, I will ditch the wave when posting answers to them.

You know how we all have these mental images of the posters, this is my mental image of flower... (My wife is a giant Disney fan)
