BEING SICK AND TIRED

It seems no matter what I do with the 225G I always have a problem....I have upgraded EVERYTHING :( and NOW I have a layer of fuzz algae AND the blotchy red cyano...it's beginning to take a toll on my sps too

I just received my new aqua vitro salt today (LOL.....You should have seen me getting it in the house) anyway I can not do a w/c till Friday the earliest
I took my pencil urchin out of the fuge to see if he will help out....LOL....I will watch him....he never caused any damage before....
YOU KNOW>....It seems since my pincushion and LMB died everything has been going downhill

I'm so sorry. I have a 28 gallon nano cube that is the same way. And since I added a pistol shrimp it's gotten worse

Maybe you should take a few fish out and lessen the bioload and feed less? Do a 50% water change and up your clean up crew?
I know that's the obvious thing to do... lol, but it just may work?
I'm scared that if I give you any suggestions I'll get flammed. lol

LOL....I have nowhere to put the fish that are in the 225G ..and I think they are ok...I will NOT be adding more fish..... a 50% w/c...all I have is a 45G brute....LOL....
Do they even sell a 112 1/2G size..... JOKIN....AND I have cut down the feeding...and the lights.....I think I am going to cut the MH lights way down for the rest of the week...
I am going to get more cuc....when I sit down and order them...
I ran some tests and everything comes out fine

If you do end up doing a half volume water change, mix it up and do a red slime remover treatment. Run some chemipure and a phosban reactor (or change the media out now) and run your skimmer.
You'll beat it. What kind of flow rates do you have?!
What kind of skimmer do you have?
Do you run an algae scrubber?

I can only do a 40G w/c at a time
I have 2 MP40's, a Koralia 1400 and 1050....and a Cascade 1500 that I run chemi-pure elite in and it has a top flow bar....I have a sump/fuge that is run by a Mag9....I have a 2 little fishies Phosban 550 reactor that I run the GFO stuff from BRS in it.....I just changed the chemi pure and gfo 2 weeks ago
I have a monstrous Hurricone 3000 external skimmer...LOL...where were you when I installed that thing????
I feed h20 pro variety foods....soaked and rinsed once a day...and algae sheets 2x a week (If I remember 3...if not 1 HAHA)
LOL...I think that covers it
p.s.....I did not order the red slime remover yet

I'm in this new routine where I get off of the computer at 8pm every day and go for a jog. I'm at work so I'll post my thoughts later today.

You know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed...I have not followed all your woes because it worries me to death, however it seems to me if the tank has been going downhill since the LMB and pincushion urchin died...maybe they did more work than you realized. Can't you replace them?

Btw. What size sump do you have because I wouldn't go less than a 55g Or less then two mag 12 return pumps. Maybe it's a temp fluctuation problem. Just a thought.

When my tank went on it's wild tangent, yes, it had a life of it's own, I used this mat thingie in my sump along with algon and it made a remarkable recovery.
I think it's a chemi mat? It comes in a big piece that you cut down to fit your sump and I have continued to use it, changing it once a month.
I don't have the packaging to get the name but I will check with Becky when she opens today.
You say the mess my tank was in and within 24 hours, I started to notice it clearing and within 4 it was clear and pristine again.
Since that time running the mat and the algone all the time, I am really happy with that tank. It really seems to be stable, which is a relief after the move and the crash.

Mine are fine and growing well. It's been about 2 months?
I don't know if it's the answer for you but it did work out well for me.

I feel your pain! Remember the nightmare that was my 155? I hated that darn tank, no matter what I did, something was always going wrong, so much so that I considered NOT putting a large tank in the new house.
It probably has nothing to do with it, but I'll throw this out there, because it sounds like you have the same issues that I had with my 155:
My 155 was also used for freshwater before I owned it.
155 and 225's are deeper than the standard 180, and this causes some major flow issues. I learned this the hard way. I learned that my 155 needed more flow than was recommended (more so than my 180 currently needs) AND needed a larger CUC than my current 180, even though the bioload is MUCH MORE on the 180. For whatever reason those extra few inches of depth are a curse to saltwater reefs.
I actually sold my 155, after contemplating turning it into a FOWLR because I feel like the thing was just cursed. The person that has it now is complaining of the same things I went through. I tried to warn him....
It does sound like you need to bump up your CUC. Adding a refugium to my 155 really helped me a lot, and I didn't even contemplate it on the 180, and it's worked well. I know the last thing you want to do is set up another tank, but a refugium really might help. I only did a 20G on the 155 and that was enough.
Have you considered replacing your blenny? You know, every tank needs a blenny! LOL

Sounds like flow issues to me as well. I think there should be more return pump and bigger powerheads in the tank. IDE start with that and go from there. A fuge and or an algae scrubber would do nothing but help.

Lois, what size return are you running? Just the Mag9? I have a Mag18(split between two returns at opposite ends of the tank) going on my 180 w/ 2 MP40's and an MP10

I made a mistake....I have a mag 18 (not 9) I have 2 MP40's, a Koralia 1400 and a Koralia 1050 AND A cascade 1500 that powers a flow bar...AND you think I don;t have enough flow???????

I thought you had an 18. I remember using you as a reason to get my husband to upgrade our return to a Mag 18, with the "This is what Meowzer is running," excuse, lol.
What percentage are you running the MP 40s at? I think you have good flow, but with my 155 being deep, it was like I never had enough/the right amount/the right positioning.
