Smoking ban in public places

The truth is nonsmokers die everyday just like smokers. They idea of second hand smoke is still being debated as we speak. There are too many tests done over and over and all prove and disprove each other everytime. I personally dont care just as long as you dont do it in my face. If I go somewhere and I dont care for the smoke, I leave. I dont get all bent out of shape because someone is smoking. I get mad when those little bstd children running around acting up and screaming for attention. Thats when I wish I has a BUG ZAPPER for kids and end them. Babies crying, children running around acting a damn fool, parents that dont beat their children to oblivion knowing that they deserve one. Thats what bothers me, not the smoke.

I wouldnt give a damn if it was. If I was a parent and had a child acting up, I would take that child straight to the legislative office's and let him/herrun rampant in their knocking crap over, yelling and screaming, throwing a tantrum, spilling food and juice on the carpet, whining, crap themselves cause they are too lazy to say they have to go to the bathroom and let it smell up their office, let them pull the "BUT WHY" questions till there is no end and lets see who changes their mind.

The same ban has been here in Florida a couple years now. I am a smoker and have been for 30 years. Originally I was against it. Now, I don't mind. Actually it's nice to have a good meal at a restraunt and not deal with the smoke.
My wife and I don't smoke in our house as well. Most of our time at home is spent on the back patio. Thank Goodness we don't live in Duluth, MN.

My city was one of the first places in Canada to ban smoking in public places and this was around 10 years ago, maybe more. What Ive noticed is alot of businesses are getting MORE customers as many people avoided places that were full of smoke. There are many times more people that dont smoke than do, and I dont think there are ANY business owners that would want the ban removed anymore. Heck, there is talk of banning smoking in buildings period, including your home, although I cant see it going anywhere anytime soon.

connecticut has had the same ban for years, and mass put it in a few years ago.
restaraunt and bar owners fought it at first, but came to realize that they soon were doing MORE business because people who didn't want to be near smoke were visiting more and more. they did not lose, but gained, business.
the problem is enforcing the law. it comes down to local authorities to enforce it, and for a $100 fine, its not worth the polices time to look for people smoking.

nah, its cause all the smokers are going to eat more because they aren't smoking, and their metabolism is going to slow down, and BOOM a good 40 lbs in a week.

I think people should be able to smoke in bars. I lived in duluth MN and they passed a smoking ban.... and then no one went to the duluth bars. They all went to the crappy bars across the bridge in wisconson. Bars are not a place where people go to be healthy. I dont smoke but i hated driving all the way to cheezeland to have fun. Plus the chances of getting DWI were much greater, and who wants to park their car 45 mins away and take a cab home.
Boo the smoking bans

just some stats I found on the net.
During 2005, 16,885 people in the U.S. died in alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes, representing 39% of all traffic-related deaths (NHTSA 2006).
( these are just deaths not injuries)
people that died from second hand smoke 3000

It's not the risk of possible cancer from inhaling second hand smoke that nonsmokers complain about. It's having to walk into a place that smells like smoke, then having all your clothes smell like smoke from being there.
I'm generally a conservative, but think the smoking bans are great. Many workplaces are also starting to take up smoking bans as well. Right now my company only allows smoking outside, but they're probably going to ban any tobacco on their premises completely.

As long as smoking is legal there is no way they should ban it in PRIVATE businesses. If you don't want to be exposed go to a non smoking bar.

Smoking is banned in restaurants and inside the workplace in NYS. They can smoke outdoors but not in their breakrooms. Some bars still allow smoking though. No big deal. When NYS started it, everybody was in an uproar about it but eventually people will get used to it. So Illinois, don't make a big a deal over it - you'll get used to it. New York did ...
