One days work down. Now I got to go help my friend move some furnature and a couple aquariums tomorrow. Woot! Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to be able to work on it till Monday.

Oh, I just wanted to go ahead and post my manifold idea. I was going to try to do that for the closed loop system. I think it would be best to do this because I can have more accurate control and I wouldn't have to crawl all over the tank adjusting valves all the time.

Sounds like a great tank and great build.

Couple quick thoughts...
First, Id ditch the caluerpa in the fuge altogether. The threat of it going sexual is too much to risk. Also, it can get into the display and start growing in the LR and other places which you just wouldnt want and wont happen with cheato. Cheato is the best and really dont need to have a variety of macro.
Also, an ER RC80 is undersized for that large of a system, expecially if your goal is sps dominated long term. But if you already have it, thats an upgrade you do do down the line. Just check what footprint the sump will allow.
Post pics when you can!

Okay "I can't wait to see it" !
The system sounds absolutely awsome. MY only comment or concern is the caulerpa macro algae. Send a message to Scopus Tang on here and ask him about it going sexual also! I have now seen it go in 5 systems. Pea soup water for about a week. Then the stuff grows over everything and chokes off corals. Only seen it with the grapevine variety but oh what a nightmare.
Also looking over the flow diagrams "will you be installing compression fittings on either side of pumps for easy removal"? Only asked as everything else was diagramed and only one pic showed one on the out side of the Reef flo Dart?

All you caulerpa haters out there lay off, that stuff is great if you prune it on a regular basis. Tangs love the stuff, it consumes no3 and you don't have to buy nori ever again. You just have to prune it.

so - suggested equipment list?
SPS dominated reef tank.
I think I'm going to go ahead and buy a kalkwasser stirrer. I've used limewater over the years and I have had great success with it. Anyone have different thoughts - maybe suggest using a calcium reacter with it?
Phosphate reactor and media? I've had a problem with phosphates in the water in my home town for a long time. My RO Unit membranes get really clogged because of Alumn in the water. So, I think I'm going to use a phosphate reactor to back up my RO Unit on the tank. Good idea? I think it is...
a 240 sps tank you're going to need a CA reactor. There is no way you'll be able to dose enough Ca to keep it over 400.

limewater is some pretty good stuff.
Though, when I do get a fair amount of sps in the tank, I will have to get a calcium reactor. Least I have room beside the tank for extra amenities.

Looking good Snake
Lemme' know what those lights do to your electric bill. I am curious.

1000 watts of light over it shouldn't do that bad at 7 cents per kilowatt hour. I'm probably going to pay another 150 out of pocket I bet. Nothing major.
At the shop my average light bill was 680 to 950 a month. So,... 150 is a cake walk.

I would have a heart attack and die if I opened that bill.

KOgle, wasn't it you who said you wanted to start an aquarium maintenance business? Doesn't this mean that you also have to offer help setting up, starting and eventually moving aquariums for services? Just wondering.
Chris, a business's electric bill is alright/easy to pay if you are making the sales volume that you need. Besides, where I live, businesses are charged 21 cents per kilowatt hour instead of the residential 7 cents per kW/hr. So, I don't think that it's going to hurt even as bad as 150 a month.

Last time I checked my residential from last month it was at 7cents. Might be going up next month to 12 to 15cents per kW/hr
Starting plumbing today! Plenty of pics to come if my battary doesn't run out! hehe

So, I can't use my dart pump. Dang. The reason is that I can not find another 2" scedule 80 slipxslip Union to match the other side. sucks!
But, I am going to be using my mag drive 24 until I can get a new bulkhead or union to match.
That's all.

You got me there. The business venture is on hold for a bit. The wife is working on getting into law school. Don't want too many irons in the fire at once.

KOgle, aquarium maintenance is a weekend job. Even after hours, it's not that difficult, you just have to know what you are doing.
Anyways, All of my plumbing is dry fitted! I just have to clean and cement all the fittings. I got to get some stuff left over from the shop - so yeah. That's basically all that is going on right now.
