Also, I don't think a temperature spike up to 86* would cause any change in coralline color

Would or would not?
Since i cleaned my sump and disturbed a lot of detritus with a powerhead, it might have been a brief nitrate/phosphate spike.

Are you getting the dimmable fixture? Also, are you customizing the colors or just going stock?

I am getting the photon 48 which is dimmable. Im going to ask for a 10k to 12k fixture. I dont like a whole lot of blue.

I prefer the bluish hue lol.
I got dimmable onyx with 18k look then I added custom actinics to give almost 20k look and I love it.

Yeah, many people do. I don't know, I think I just like the 12k look much better - and even a little lighter in SPS dominated tanks. All the blue light in an SPS tank doesn't really make the colors pop to me - all the sticks look blue or green. I like my reds and yellows and purples.
I'm glad you like what you bought. lets hope that I like my new Photon 48 as much as you like your onyx fixture.
My central air conditioner is broken again. It's gotten up to 86 inside the house with all three window AC's running all day. My tank at lights out was 87.7*F. Nothing is dying though, which is a big surprise to me.
The AC repair man is supposed to come on Monday and seal a leak and add more refrigerant to the A/C. I hope that fixes it for sure. I hate that my tank is getting up so high, but I hope that the AC can be officially fixed this time around. I had a couple of fans on my list to buy today, but I never got around to going to wally world or a similar store. Oh well,... what's one more day of high temps? Besides, I mainly have softies now anyways.
Oh, and now that I have no more green star polyps, all the GSP nudibranchs are moving elsewhere around the tank. I'm slowly picking them off one by one.

Believe it or not alot of the ocean temps are in mid 80s. I think the color temperature is in the eye of the holder and if you like 12k that's the look you should go with. For me, I like my uvs up and running to show that red and other florescent colors that royal blues can't bring out.
Lucky that you only habe softies... acros are not so forgiving in temp swings.

I was thinking 14k myself. I remember having some days that my tank got that hot and everything was okay. Hopefully tomorrow the AC will be back up and running again but I think you'll be okay. I've never dealt with GSP nudi's before. Will they die off w/o any GSP to eat?

They should. They are very specific when it comes to food.
not yet sure if they eat other corals.

So, my house is about 85*F right now. I have a lot of cleaning and putting away to do today. It's freakin' hot. I have all three window units on, and all three fans on. whew.
My tank, even before the lights come on is sitting right at 85.8 - 86*F. I think I am going to let the Apex controller keep the lights off today unless it does get down below 82*F. I hate that I am battling high temps right now, and I can't wait for the dang AC repair man to come and fix it. There are two things that I hate when I come home from a work day: the AC broken and the TV remote lost.
I don't really know what else I am going to do today. I'm thinking that I might just kinda take it easy and clean the house some and cool for the rest of the week. Not a whole lot to do or go anywhere today and I can't really work on the tank - I would hate to stir up a bunch of phosphate in the form of detritus and also have my temp up to 86*F,... know what I mean? I'm pretty sure that if I didn't have window units right now, my tank would have melted down by now.
Still working on my photography skills.
Oh, by the way, when this thread reaches 50 pages, I'm going to automatically split it into a new thread. I don't like threads that just keep going and going and going. It's really hard to search for anything in a thread at that point.

Since Im practicing a little more with the camera, I'm getting a couple half way ok candid shots of my daughter. I wanted to share a few on this thread.

Gotta love a girl that cleans. :D

Making faces. Drinking outta a "big girl cup."

Somehow I got this shot of her "dancing" to "My Little Pony." Although, it looks more like Saturday Night Fever. lol

A little mold buildup in the canopy. You can see the salt creep around the locline. It's building up and then a little drip of water around the top is causing the wood to mold. It's not enough to go OH MY GOSH AHHHH!!!! but it's enough for me to order a new locline and re-work the plumbing in the oncoming weeks.

You can see the "green stuff" the C. racemosa making a comeback in this pic. Sorry I didn't take the time to focus on the algae instead of the lights. Yes, I know I am lazy.

Well, I did it. :)
I ordered my Photon 48 unit today. XD
And now I feel penniless.
But, I have an almost full tank of gas and a full case of diapers for my daughter. All's good in the world. :D
