The more I read about the Maxspect Razor, the more I like it. It's a decent fixture and I will only have to have two at $399 each. I figure why not go ahead and get a decent fixture instead of cheaping out on the other ones. Plus, I like how thin it is, and it doesn't require any active cooling until it reaches a certain temp. It also comes with it's own controller... which is really nice. For the money, I think it is definitely worth it. From what I have been reading, people say that it is comparable to an AI Vega or a 250w - 400w metal halide... except that it isn't hard on the electric bill and it has plenty of PAR without the heat. I think I am pretty much sold. It's going to be a little while till I get this cool little gadget, but it is definitely on my list at this point.

I want a yellow tang and a kole tang in this tank. I also like various gobies and blennies. I also may get a possum wrasse or one of the colorful fairy wrasses. The bioload is going to be on the medium side - I want the corals to have plenty of food, and I want to choose my livestock according to their purpose and behaviors.
The tank will be completely SPS dominated with a few LPS mixed in. My wife likes the stuff that moves back and forth and I like the SPS corals because of the color and challenge - and observing their growth patterns. Just something that I enjoy. So, I'll be getting a hammer and a frogspawn - maybe an open brain as well. I'm not getting any soft corals for this tank because I don't want to mix them with SPS corals.

A couple of pics of the tank running...

The pump was turned off and on a few times to make sure there is enough room in the sump for water run-off. Everything's good, as long as I don't top off the tank higher than the last glass baffle.
The Mag 9 return pump is working like a champ. I am glad that I chose to do a much larger return chamber this time. Topping off the sump shouldn't be much of an issue. I know in a smaller sump you have to top off nearly every single day. So far I haven't topped off at all.

Looks great!
I agree about the topoff. Ugh. If I didn't have an ATO I'd be adding a little less than a gallon a day. Right now I have a 5.5g reservoir on the ATO, and I refill once a week. Do you have room in there for an ATO tub?

Nope. But, the return hamber is 4 gallons. I should top the sump off every 3-4 days. My tank is running cool. Im going to have to buy a heater soon.

Wow, you like it on the high side huh? I usually keep it around 1.024 ish. Nsw is always spot on at .023 so I add a bit of reefcrystals time to time lol.

Hi,
If you don't have an ATO, won't the SG get too high when it evaporates since sea water is 1.026?...I thought that was the top SG number to allow....Just asking.

Some successful reefs have ran at 1.027-1.028. I have let my salinity get up to 1.029 before and it didnt harm anything. The return chamber is 4 gallons and i have my ro unit now. It is the easiest thing in the world to add top off water to my tank every morning as part of my morning routine.
I put sand and rock in the tank last night. I moved the chromis over. The rock is cycled and i transfered a bunch of dirty filter media from my 20g over to the 75. Its kinda like just moving a tank. Ill be adding in the tomato clowns that i already have and the bicolor blenny. Because my wife wants me to keep them. Lol. The other two clowns will be going back to thr store today. I have pics but will have to wait to post them.

LOL...All this time, I would go into a panic if the SG went above 1.026 at any time. I top off at night before bed. When I had my ATO unit..I topped off the holding tank because I just couldn't leave it alone...so no matter what, I still topped off. My JBJ ATO with new sensors is now just sitting in the garage because the space where I kept the holding container (slim plastic garbage can marked...FISH ONLY) is now occupied by my chiller.
I'm looking forward to the new update pictures. I always preferred the look of the Tomato clowns, but I think I read someplace that they were meaner than regular clowns...so I kept the percs

Yeah, I tend to do the same thing anyways. I used to have a gravity fed ATO, but I decided that may be a little too old school - and I wanted to update my reefing "style." so I am trying out all of the new gadgets that they have for reefers. Heck, I am even going to try out LEDs here in a couple of months. Maxspect R420R LED fixtures seem like they are going to be worth the coin.
They may be a little more aggressive. Right now they are still really small. Hopefully I can get them beefed up a bit in the new system. I'm taking my regular percs back to the fish store for a credit.

Eh, I have been keeping false percs with the tomatoes in a 20g for the last couple of weeks and I haven't seen any real aggression on either side so far. Now, that may dramatically change in the next week or so - but so far so good.
As a side note, I desperately need to buy a decent heater or two. The tank water is too cool and not regulated at the moment. So, I'll probably go to the store in the next couple of days.

Hi,
I have an almost brand new (used once for a week) in line Hydro brand heater that I had for my 56g...since I now keep only seahorses and they only need a chiller, I would be happy to send it to you if you want it. LOL...I better make myself clear, it's for FREE

So, last night I was moving my live rock over from my 20g system into the 75g system. I was moving rocks around with an ungloved hand. Yeah.
So, I was moving and grabbing and reaching and the next thing I know, my ring finger on my right hand was throbbing in pain.
I immediately dropped the rock that I had in my hand to look at the reason why my finger was hurting. Knowing enough about reefkeeping and live rock, I was horrified at the idea that I could have been stuck or stung by something that may make me go into cardiac arrest or make my hand rot off. So, I did what I could to relieve the pain in my finger and put on neoprene gloves and went back to work moving the live rock over.
I picked up the rock that I was working with and turned it over and found this...

This fireworm was huge! Approximately a little over 4" long. My crappy iPhone camera doesn't do this little guy justice. He was very impressive - and as you can imagine, I analyzed him with much appreciation. Beautiful little creature. But, I didn't want him in my new tank so...

I was able to get half of him out of the rock on one side. The other side I was able to cut off the "head" and poked the toothpick down in the hole to kinda "take care of the rest."
My finger doesn't hurt today, thankfully. Never the less - it did scare me, and taught this reefer that you should always wear gloves.

I don't pass up anything free!!! You already know my address, I hope. PM me the details.
An in-line heater might be a small problem for my PVC plumbing - but I KNOW that I can use it on my 20g freshwater planted tank that I'm working on getting done here in a week or two. So, I'd be happy to take it off your hands. XD

Updated pics of the tank.
Let me first off say that I only had 30 minutes to do my aquascape last night and that this is not the final shape and form that it will take. I will need to move around some things and I want a couple of mountains and the rock work on the visible peninsula side is too close to the glass. But, the one thing that I do like is the break in the rock closer to the overflow.

The water is still cloudy from adding the sand yesterday. Oolite sand - not my first choice, but something my mother taught me was "use what you've got." So, I had it available and used it anyway.
A couple of spots in the sandbed will be filled in shortly. I just didn't have time to really do much yesterday.
Oh - and yes, that is a chromis that you see in the tank. If you haven't been reading my previous posts, don't bother to comment.
