Just got through this thread and all I have to say is wow! I hope my tank can be as awesome/vivid as yours some day. Right now mine is pretty ugly as I bought it established and kinda hastily reassembled it. My rocks and some of my corals have sand all over them and are all just kinda thrown in there. I saw that you rearranged your tank several times, can anyone give me some advice on how to do that? Do I just reach in and start moving stuff around, or do I need to pull out the corals and fish and then move stuff or what? Obviously I will wear gloves.
Also, do you target feed your corals? If so, how much and how exactly? There was a syringe in the equipment I got, do I just put some food in it and turn off the pumps and shoot the food at em?
I think I'll start a diary on here because this was such a great read. And maybe someone starting with an ugly established tank could be interesting too!
Thanks it means a lot, and mine looked like crap at first so don't worry. Over time it will transform and end up really beautiful just take it slow. As for rearranging rockwork and placing corals in I just use my hands and I have yet to use gloves... If I do need to move a nem or potent coral I just use my aquascaping grabbers. If you are moving rock and kicking up a lot of sand don't worry about it just make sure your pumps are off and just turn them back on when the debris settles. I target feed a lot of my corals and when I do I use a syringe as well. Just a small puff of "Coral Frenzy" on most of the polyp mouths and the general area and any thing that is left I just spray into the water. Don't get hung up on getting everymouth it's impossible haha Oh and I usually only do it once a week, just follow what ever you are using's directions. Most people do turn off their pumps but some don't it's all personal preference IMO. I prefer to turn pumps off while leaving my power head on so their is still flow in the tank.
I'm glad you like it and I'm excited to see your tank thread. Oh and questions are a good thing so keep asking, it's what will help you progress in the hobby more then anything else. Nissan577 is IMO one of the best people to talk to if you have questions, he's the man as well as a SWF GOD.
