Starting a new 20 Gallon Nano.

This will eventually become my new Tank Thread, but just wondering ATM what GPH powerhead of the Coralife powerheads would you recomend for 20 gallons, softie tank with mostly Zoas, Rics, Palys, Mushrooms, and other small encrusting corals like GSP? 750GPH? 1300GPH? 2900GPH? Thanks in advance! - Andrew

Also; I just fragged my Kenya tree. Everyone says that they are very hardy, and I was just wondering how long it takes for the base of the branch to heal (on the mother stem) where the cut was made? Do they need extra good water quality to heal? Or extra flow/lighting? Thnx - Andrew :)

IMO multiple koralia nano is your best bet... 750 and above are really big just size wise. and IMO whether you will be doing a long or tall tank you"ll end up with too harsh a flow either way... i used two on my 20 long and everything was happy.... cant help with the kenya

dont worry about the kenya, i had to rip one from the base off of a rock and a little peice of flesh was left on the rock. Now i have two kenya trees.

Thanks Hunt, I'm not really worried about it anymore anyways, the peice I cut off is perking up and *hopefully* starting to attach itself to the rock. The big peice I cut it from is already fully opened up again!

I have one Karalia Nano 240GPH powerhead in my 20 gallon and if you look from the top my tank is like a whirlpool. All of my corals (shrooms, leather tree, GSP, Hammer, and button polyps are super happy!! The Koralia Nano is certainly small in size and looks perfect in my tank. The 750 Evolution was just massive physically in my tank and way way to much flow. Go with a nano or two and you'll be happy.

FML I just typed a MASSIVE reply! But im really tired and spent a really long time on it to retype it! I accidentally clicked on an ad! Grrrrrr!!!!
Long story short;
Livestock I want;
Coral:
GSP
Zoas
Palys
Rics
Frogspawn
Invertibrates:
Skunk cleaner shrimp
Peppermint shrimp
(Snails- suggestions please?)
White carpet anemone
Fish;
Ocellaris Clownfish x2
Royal Gramma
Yellow Watchman Goby
(Suggestions?)
TIA - Andrew

No to the carpet anemone, they can get over 2ft long and need pretty big tanks. (look up maxi mini carpets (not sure on the name), im not sure if clowns will go in them, but there pretty cool looking) Everything else looks good.

If you need an anemone, i would go with a BTA, they are generally the smallest and easiest host anemones, IMO. But keep in M But they can still get up to 12in
But they can still get up to 12in and are reccomended for no smaller than 30g+. But ive seen them kept happy in 20g's before.

Oh, and I don't need an anemone, it's just something I find neat. I like when clownfish host them. On the other hand, I could get some frogspawn OR torch coral instead of an anemone, would clowns host in these readily? and which one of the two would you recomend based on ease of care and agression?

I dont think there are any smaller host anemones for clownfish. I think the frogspawn/torch coral idea is a better idea. (im not sure about this, but i think ive read about clownfish hosting these and it ends up killing the coral so you might want to google thaat or something). I Think the care level for torch and frogspawns are about the same, so go with whatever you like better i guess. What kind of lights do you have?

At the moment I have T5 10,000K and 28 Watt Actinics, Im getting HO lights for X-mas, . . . well hopefully.
So clownfish hosting in a torch or frogspawn kills them? Good to know. Does the same happen with Xenia? Although I would much rather an anemone then Xenia

Im not sure if it will kill them or not. I think when i read about the coral dieing, it was because it was something like a big maroon clown in a small frogspawn frag, and when maroons are hosted, they can be aggressive. You might want to post a question about that in the anemone section, or just wait till someone comes along here to answer it because im not totally sure. So dont rule out the coral yet... I dont think ive ever heard about clowns hosting xenia....I think your lights would be fine...I have two BTAs in my 29g under 65w PC lights (NOT reccomended) and they are doing pretty well.

Corals were not meant to host clowns. The clowns can kill the corals over time. However, there is no guarantee that a clown will host in an anemone or coral. They choose what they like
