Ok so basically if I skip out on water changes... That's the part that was confusing me because it seems so simple that if you keep on top of maintenance you wont get ammonia after your cycle is completed.
Checked sg this morning, down to 1.012. I wont be able to do another wc until tonight but I should be down completely by tomorrow morning or tomorrow night at the latest. Everybody is still eating and looking healthy.

Just watching as I am interested in the procedural issues. (Oh yeah I want your fish to be healthy too!)
I was under the impression that the salinity was to be dropped to the 1.009 over a 48 hour course. Is this not true? Can it take longer to bring it down without detriment somehow?

I've heard a few times from both beth and sep that if you have to take a little longer than 48 hours then it's ok. It is best to do it in 48 hours, but if it takes longer, it takes longer. I don't really have a choice as I'm not home a whole lot during the week.
Thanks for your concern

Can't wait to see the outcome which I am confident will be the recovery of your fish.

I'm confident they will be fine. They are all eating well so far (especially the clowns) and not showing any signs of stress. :crosses fingers:

Anything new? This is an interesting thread...
Thanks.. I didn't think anybody besides sep was paying attention until yesterday.

I took out 5 gallons tank water today and am slowly filling up with fw. Sg is currently at 1.010--I'll be finished tonight after about another gallon of ro
ph:8.0
ammonia:0
nitrites:0
nitrates:10

Ok I finished topping off with ro and my sg is at.... 1.010

I'm going to take out 2 gallons later tonight and top off with ro. I'll test sg after each 1/2 gallon.

1.009 has been achieved! I haven't seen any white spots since I put in the last fish so 4 weeks of hyposalinity from today, 1 week of rasing sg back up, and another week of them being in the qt tank and they will all be thrown back into the display sometime around April 8th.
Actually, they will not all be thrown in at once. I'm thinking lawnmower blenny first, then clowns, then kole tang, since he is the biggest. What do you guys think?

Yes. Hypo still effects ich the same way if it takes 48 hours or a week. Once hyposalinity is achieved then ich will not be able to reproduce, therefore they will die. If a fish is in need of treatment then naturally you would want to take only 48 hours.

Wait and watch them very carefully. They may get a few spots yet. Count now, but re-count if a spot shows up. Be sure to look closely.

Ok gotcha. I got a little ahead of myself there...

Is there a range of sg I can be in and still be ok for hypo or do I need to stay exactly at 1.009?
It has to be at 1.009. The SG can dip to 1.008 for a day or two, but not too long. It cannot go higher than 1.009. It isn't that hard to keep it right at 1.009. In my 15 long QT I use roughly half a gallon of top off per day. Just be sure to check it.

The reason I ask is because this morning I added too much fw and I dropped it down to 1.008 and I freaked out and added too much sw again and brought it to 1.010. So I'll have to drop it back down to .009 tomorrow

Why didn't you add fresh water right away? Your mixed water should be at 1.009. Why was the mix higher? This time at 1.010, being that you are not far into hypo, could be a big issue.

Ok that post confused me sep. I didn't get it back down to 1.009 right away because I had to leave and the fish were really stressed out at 1.008.
Why would it be a problem? I can't bring it back down to 1.009 and start the 4 week count fresh?
