Again, not as difficult as you think. Especially on these 'third-party websites' they described in the article. We scan random sites all the time just to see what holes are in them. If you knew what I knew, you'd never post on a public web site again, much less put your personal data on it.
elaborate...

My company specializes in network security and network intrusions. Part of what I do for the government is they give us one of their 'sites', and my guys spend a week or two looking for any vulnerabilities in their firewalls, and we see what systems behind the firewall we can infiltrate if we get through. Once we access the environment, we go to the site and 'plug the holes'. You could call us 'ethical hackers'. Needless to say, I have the same tools (if not better) than most hackers use these days.
We periodically provide services to organizations outside of the government, and many of them are surprised how open some of their networks are. A lot of these small web hosting sites just use canned firewall implementations that any worm or intrusion sofware can infiltrate. They close the standard UDP/TCP ports, but miss the one's that hacker tools know how to use.

Very interesting career...I like it

Back when I was a cop, I had "arrangements" to shoplift from certain retail stores. I would go in, sometimes with an accomplice, browse the store, and shoplift thousands of $'s right under their noses. I had signed management approval though. Usually this would be on a Sat. night. Then on Sunday morning during their normal staff meeting, I would come back, in uniform, and go thru every scenario (returning the goods of course). It was a very proven and effective lesson for all. Sounds like what you do, just a different version.

Nice to know you believe we have the intelligence level required to accomplish such a feat.
I will not make (good natured) fun of Bionic for getting his websites hacked...

My websites? Sorry, have nothing to do with any public web sites. I primarily validate military installations in the US and worldwide.

If you watch the replay the court liberals didn't seem to appreciate his low brow comment either. I don't think they would ever change a ruling because of it but you can bet if given the chance they will respond in a opinion at some point.
