Stingy

Am I the only one annoyed at being called "stingy"? Apparently we didn't send our money fast enough nor in enough quantity to satisfy expectations.
I just looked up the foreign aid received by Florida disaster survivors.... wow a whopping $0.00. I'm overwhelmed by the love.
Some will say, hey, we're rich and don't deserve any aid. Tell that to the homeless family that is trying to figure out how to get back on their feet again. Perhaps if we sent tax money to Florida instead of every country in the world that whines at us we'd have an economy that could help the world's disasters better.

Actually, I was flabbergasted. 35 million is really pocket change?? I'd be interested to see how that compares to what others give.
Mind you, this is not a slame against those who suffered this disaster. But it is tiresome to be the world's welfare office.

wow, i didnt see that come across CNN, where's the 'stingy' quote from?
granted, the 118,000 dead is much worse than the FL disasters. but still, "stingy" seems like a bad choice of words to evoke more generosity.

Charity starts at home.... Don't get me wrong, it was a horriffic disaster...but if the tables were turned, who would help us? Who has helped us? Let's hope we never have to find out. Bill Gates donated 2 million dollars of his lunch money to the relief effort.... I'd like to know if he did anything for the hurricane victims. Bottom line is take care of our own first!

I was and still am PO'd about it. France.....$136,000.  What the heck???
no one would step up to the plate for us. It was and is a tragedy yes, but there are many not sending anything yet. What about
Saudi Arabia? They are right there for petes sake. Our country is sending more $$$ on top of the aid just from donations from our own pockets....ie Amazon, Red Cross, etc.

Yea, this is Bull$hit. Everyone is jealous of our country...but we got here, didnt we? If they worked as hard as we did, maybe they could be a world power too. Its tough cuz weve been labeled...i still think that we should help out, but to yell at us for donating millions of dollars to relief efforst, sending over troops and medical aid and relief support. I hope the whole world doesnt turn against us for helping those in need:nope:

I am glad to see the amount of money being donated to help these people and their countries out. But people need to take this into consideration when we blame Bush for our deficiate.
I am glad we can help out the entire world, especially since they hate us so much.
People who call us stingy, are just jellous of our wonderful country

thats exactly what is getting under my skin. We are damned if we do and damned if we don't. Everyone claims to hate us, while they take our money. They say we were too slow in saying what a tragedy it was. Isn't it obvious what a terrible thing it was? Lets see how long it takes for everyone to make comments when Powell and Jeb get there. :nope:

Things have to be done very carefully over there and in a certain order. The logistics alone of trying to assist are mind boggling. Whatever the "world" says I certainly hope that the the $35mm did not turn into the $350mm because of the "bad publicity". I rather liked the idea of the staged approach to aid that had been originally announced.
I doubt there are many other countries where their private citizens are giving so much in personal donations. I'm also tired of these oil rich middle eastern countries that don't assist as much as they should.
But, when you talk to me you are talking to someone that believes that when things stabilize in Iraq that they should get busy repaying us with oil and while we should assist with knowledge, expertise etc., their money should fund all rebuilding efforts.
Yeah, I'm steamed too:mad:

350?? Where did that info come from??
The official donation is what is recognized as coming from the "government" however, you know that the bucks are not going to stop there. The private and religious sectors in this country will amass a hugh charity drive. It is horrible what all of those people are suffering.
Now how much did we receive from others when 911 happened?

Beth, yesterday the media started reporting that the President had announced that the amount the American government is giving in assistance is now $350mm.
I think we got as much on 9/11 as we did for the Florida hurricane victims.

I'm not sure which I'm annoyed at more the stingy comment or us not submitting to the UN's moral authority comment. Hmm... maybe I'm just annoyed with the UN.

Stingy...YES in a way but good to give money....what about the couple who survived and lost her pasport and just had a credit card....America would charge people for the PICTURES their PICTURES for god sake for a new pasport to go back to America
Who cares what other countries give and care. If we have the money then we should give it to thoes in need. People in America may be struggling in America too but imagine living in a 3rd world country...
Well look at it like this....We (America) have about 5% of the whole population of the WHOLE world yet we use 25% of the worlds recources!! 25%!! And I bet the average American has what, about 2 or 3 TV's in 1 house and in other countries they have about 1 PER 10 houses.....
P.S. and most people in Europe hate Americans because they talk WAY too loud......
