wondering if something can be done to filter some of that before it goes to the first chamber....like another chamber with a sponge.

My overflow is silent. I was surprised. Hey I saw in a thread that you added your clean up crew during your cycle. How'd that work out for you did you have amm and trites? I'm going to wait but am worried that they won't eat the longer hair algae that is showing up.

I know people are going to doubt me, but my cycle was over in a week. I honestly never saw a spike, even though i had shrimp in there.
My rock came from the ocean in the morning, and into my curing totes by 4pm that night. It didn't have any die off that i could tell. They were in my curing totes for 2 weeks (mainly because i didn't want to set up my tank before going on vacation). Even when i was pulling out of the curing tanks, i had nothing dead in the bottom of them. Maybe the bacteria was forming in the curing tanks, and nothing died off between moving from the tanks to my 75, i dont know. I have TONS of stars, had tons of crabs and urchins, and my rock is covered in coralline, sponges, slimes, clear anenomes, tons of feather dusters, etc so i know there couldn't have been a high ammonia spike.
I put in the CUC and have only lost 2 mexican turbo snails, a couple astreas (mainly found upside down), and a couple hermits since last august.

Well I'm going to wait my cycle out but I'm jealous of your rocks. I wish I had and hope to have more hitchhikers other than pods and sponges.

I thought about it but I fed my rock two days ago when I showed zero for amm and my amm was at 0.2 yesterday, trites barely showing. Friday marks week 3 and i'd hate to kill even a crab b/c I couldn't wait.

goodness, if you feel that way about a $2 hermit, you're going to give up on the hobby with your first fish death :p

well, i found 50 lbs of live sand for $5.00 plus shipping (probably going to work out to about $1 a lb with shipping), so tha should fill up the fuge nice, plus build to my sandbed in my tank. I also put some caulerpa and a mix of insanely growing macros from my lfs into the fuge, and it's filling up quite well :)

COOL! when did you first start having problems with "Stuff" building up? I've been running for 2 days and nothing yet...

mine started the day i set it up. I also think it may have been sponge die off from my skimmer. It originally was covered in qtip sponges as was my wet/dry. I think they died off and settled to the bottom.
