basically the guy did a diagram for an automated waterchange setup, plus an auto top off.
WC i think was the water change pump.

in my old fuge i used almost a whole bottle, and had a 2" bed. I have 20 lbs of live sand which by itself will give me a 4 or 5" bed.

so u threw down a 2inch bed of LS, then a 5lb bag of miracle mud?
will this cause a nitrate cycle when i start this up?

no, i havent done my new fuge yet, i still have to do the plumbing and i'm not sure what to do with the existing mud in my old fuge.
that mud is a nightmare. any disturbing of it will send a cloud of dirt into your DT. The only reason i'm thinking about keeping some of it is due to the life that i see in it. I don't want to lose that. putting mud in a tank is bad because it also needs to cycle a little (according to the instructions). so unless you're starting off new, i'd just use sand. mud also has to be replaced almost yearly supposedly.

renogaw id take some of your mud and put it in a tupparare bowl then set it on top of your sand bed so the pods can switch over to the chato. they love to stay in there so with in a week they should all switch over and you can throw the mud out

good idea, thank you :)
i'm going to do the plumbing this weekend i hope. I may be able to get away with cutting my existing plumbing and using 2 couplings to shorten the pipe.

FINALLY!!!
I still have to do the plumbing, so in the mean time i put back in my old 1-1/4" flex hose. I ended up having to put the tank on the floor, it was too tall to fit under the stand on the platform i had. I was able to save quite a few pods, but i know i lost some. I'm going to pickup my sand sunday, and get the 2 fittings i need to cut down my plumbing. I also need to figure out a way to get makeup water into the sump. theres not enough room to get the 1gal thermos i used previously into the tank.

looking good!!
I don't know how you will make it easy to get water in.... i've plumbed a valve to allow me to get water out.

i had to add a gallon today and i was able to just add it to the overflow in the tank. my next project (once i'm not grounded anymore, wifey's not too happy with my purchases this month) will definitely have to be the ATO.

For the time being, i think i'm going to make a pouring station out of some PVC. Probably 1-1/2 line, couple 90's, and a 4x1-1/2 coupling to act like a funnel. I should have everything at work so i'll get it cheap $$.

grabbing my sand :) i told my wife she can't be mad at me for it because i've already been charged for it

I'll have pics later... assuming i'm going to have to let the dust settle. hopefully i'll have my pumps back on later tonight.

I'm a tad ticked. The live sand calculator was a little off... I *might* have a 3" sand bed. I saw the scale saying 20 lbs, and there was only a tiny bit of water in the bag so i definitely got 20 lbs of sand, which should have been a 4". i'm going to have to get more sand and redo the fuge part once my wife unstrings the purse ties again.
My sand cloud was absolutely nothing to worry about though and it has settled to the point where i turned on the water already. The eggcrate is keeping Monster in the fuge area, but a hermit already broke free. The gorilla crab originally was about 1/2" long, now is about 2.5" long and digging throughout the sand.

goodness, my chaeto looks so tiny there. I have about a softball sized amount after i took two sandwich baggies out of it (you can see one of them ready to go tomorrow :). I should be getting a baggy of calerpa (sp) wednesday, and my lfs is going to prune their hob fuge and save some for me.
that sand bed just looks so... tiny. i could put another 20lbs of sand in and still probably not make a dent.

giddy up man. so i guess i need like 40lbs of sand...since my area's a little wider, and still 6 inchs high..i'd like to go ~5.5' maybe some rock and some cheato...excited to move the tank this weekend. I'm doing all the prep work this week before i do move it.

i am debating just putting in some dead sand and letting the live sand seed it. it would have to be cheaper.
