Thanks premilove. Right now I'm letting some corals grow out and fill in some of the gaps. Still a long way to go. But one day, I do plan to pick back up on this thread and show all of the things inside of the tank.

right, so you cant fill up a bucket (for extra-normal use) of salt, only fresh, correct?
Okay, I follow you. Correct, I can only use the spickot to fill up fresh water. If I ever needed salt water, other than using the switch upstairs, I would have to dip it out of the can. I was doing this occassionally, for changes on my 55, until last night....
...sold it...
Put it up on craigs and it was gone within 24 hrs.

cool. so im trying to figure out how i could do it most cost effectively so that i could use the spigot* for salt as well. another potential problem i might run across that you dont have to worry about, is becuse i am going lateral, and not vertical on the pump, how to get the water to come on command (pump only) and not gravity feed out.

Just drill a hole in the lower portion of the salt can and run the pipe over to tee into the other one coming down from the fresh.
If you are wanting pump only on command, why would it matter if it's lateral. Mine is vertical, but going UP. The pump is doing all the work.

i think it matters because the water line would be above the tubing and the eventual outlet into the tank, so gravity would push the water out through the whole. on yours the water has to be pumped up to the next level

Wow T.... I had no idea, I remembered you talking to Spidey about wanting some yellow-belly Hippos, but I guess I just didn't add it up.... I will be forever apologetic that I didn't stopped by sooner.

Put a ball valve on the end near the tank so that it won't syphon when you don't want it too. But if you do have a syphon, then you don't need the pump, just the ball valve at the end to open/close when you want some water.
The one thing I don't like about this suggestion though, is that you will have stagnant water just sitting in the lines when not in use. This is the only reason I have the upper ball valve that you first asked me about, as to be able to shut the pipes off closer to the source allowing me to open the lower ones to drain out any water sitting in the lines.

Hey Aqua...

Surely this is not the first time you have been to this thread...

Honestly bud, I'm not sure.
I definitely think I remember your floor drain and your double trash can tower from reason, but not this thread. Maybe your posted them in the equipment section once or twice? I'll have to scan back through the NASCAR fantasy thread, but I definitely don't remember it being mentioned there? We went through almost an entire season (only missed daytona), and definitely don't remember it being mentioned there?

The water system has been up on a few threads, as there are people from time to time looking for ideas, but anyway....welcome to Scotts' brainfart thread

speaking of pics, if you get a moment, can you post a closeup of how you connected the legs and base of the can tower? im trying to figure out the best way to attach mine.

What do you mean saltn00b, how the wood is s-crewed together? If so, I started with the square base, then went up. I noticed that you didn't have a base on yours in your drawing, but the lower tub can just sit on the floor. The base just stabilizes things a little, and keeps you from having to bend over so much.

yea i have a base that i built, that will sit on 5 1/2 cinder blocks. i guess i can just sc rew it in on 45 degree angles...
