Talk about being insulted

about a month ago (when I still had my nano) I bought a chiller from an LFS that I had grown to like and spent al ot of my money at. He got it in from the warehouse and I came to pick it up and took it home and set it up. When I set it up, the display was broken and it was not cooling right, it also made this terrible loud noise that filled half of my house!! I knew it was broken. I took it back to the store and told my buddy, the manager, that is was broken and it wasn't working right. We plugged it and it made the same noise but he said it didn't. We took it home, tried again but with no success. Took it back (the same day we bought it) and asked for a simple exchange or a refund or even a store credit. He told me no... long story short he was really rude and said that since another guy had ordered 5 grand worth of equipment that was never paid for, the store couldn't afford to "eat it."
I was very angry that I spent over 300 bucks and had a broken product. I reported him to the BBB online. They sent the business a notification about it recently and he called my home today!! He called today at about 3 o'clock and cursed me out, said I was a liar and that none of that ever happened! He yelled at me and said "Don't ever come in my f-ing store again!"
How can a business owner harass someone like that?!?! I still can't believe that he called my home!
Just goes to show you that no matter what kind of patron you are, even one who spend a lot of money in a store (upwards of 3k in about 4 months), they will still try to screw you. Since I reported him, I have not been back to the store. And after he called my house, I reported him to the BBB again. What a A-- hole!

if he calls you again, I would file a restraining order on him.

Man that sucks, you could kick his ass !!!
I have found that you may spend time in county, but boy it feels good.
On a side note you might want to buy the exact same unit and return the busted one.

Really?
, just because you got screwed, screw someone else, huh?

Do what meowzer said, and call the manufacture. Tell them your story, and if they can't do an exchange, see if they can diagnosis the problem, and if they can send repair parts, or have you send the unit to them. If that fails, look in your yellow pages for refrigeration, and see if those places can help.

I ended up selling the chiller on CL but I couldn't get nearly what I paid for it. Current USA said that we had to ship it back on our own dime, and that we had to do it through the store, basically so they know where you got it from. It was brand new, in the box...
What appalls me is that he called me home and cursed at me, like I did something wrong! I got screwed and reported it like I was supposed to, to the BBB. How is he allowed to harass me?? Really?? I wish I did have that chiller... It would be so nice to throw it through his window. I am glad that they got screwed though... That guy that ordered all that stuff before my incident.... ordered a 400 gal custom tank, an stand, lights, custom chiller and a custom sump and fuge, plus some specialty live stock. Makes me happy to know that that store had to eat that... I just hope that manager loses his job... how could anyone employ someone who does that... uses the computer data for customers, to ring them up and tell them things like what he said to me... I couldn't even write most of it because the site wouldn't let me post it!!!
Screw him... a hole.

i'm sorry too. but once he left the store, the owner had no right to call him and curse him out. he was well within his right to ask the owner to make it right and if the owner did not, then he was well within his right to call the BBB. If the owner had made it right, he could have called the bbb and filed a GREAT story as well. An adult would have realized that he screwed up and strive for better customer service next time. A violent idiot would call him up and curse him out.
If someone did that to me I would take it as a threat and thus I would file a restraining order, and if after that, they saw me and approached me on the street, I would take that as a threat as well and appropriately defend myself. Thank god for conceal carry permits... And I am a peace loving tree-hugging democrat.
To the OP: No, you shouldn't have sold it on CL. If you had to eat a few dollars shipping it back, it probably would have been less that you had to eat selling it on CL. Now, someone else has been screwed. The old saying 2 wrongs don't make a right still apply.

I know, its just that I have been harassed and ripped off, a few times in the past few years for no reason. You may recall my post a long while back where, the store that set up my 1st tank took lots of my money, did it wrong, supplied crap equipment, and then refused to accept any responsibility when it crashed. I considered suing them, but in the end, I took it as lesson learned, and moved on. Its bad enough when someone rips you off, even worse when they act like you have no right to complain. oh, well.

unfortuently, all of this turns into a lesson learned, and hopefully you are able to post on different sites not to shop there. Any store, retail or otherwise tries to sell what they have not what they cant get, so as far as crappy equipment, its best to look stuff up before buying it. People so often only do this with electronics,, its very important to do this with whatever you buy and to check the BBB and other customer based review sites of where you want to shop.

It sounds like he sold on CL stating it was broken; "didn't get back nearly what I paid"...
At least hoping he didn't "pass the buck"....

What I find really funny, is that according to the OP, they took it back in, plugged in in and it was screaming on the counter, and the manager said "no it isnt"... ? WTF???

If in fact this was an employee, rather than the owner, then step one would be to speak to the owner. Many problems can be solved at this level before things esculate.
