Tanuki's First Saltwater Tank (Lots of learning to be done)

Yeah I would say the hole is about the size of the 0 on my keyboard. Maybe a little bigger, but not much. I will try and leave some food out tonight and see if it comes out or not. Will it continue to return to the same hole or once it comes out, could it be anywhere in the tank?

O - that small? from the vid - it looked alot larger to me! I was hopin for a mantis....ratz...With somthing that small, it might actually be imbedded inside the rock and may not be able to come out. If it did, it's likely return though, and I'd still try the fishing method just to see, but it could be captured/bound in the rock, unable to leave.
Maybe another member has had somthing like this before.

maybe yeah.
I will try to use a tooth pick and get all the sand/ rocks off the top of the hole today. This will at least give me a better idea of the size of the hole.

I've watched the video a bunch - and there are 2 squirts, with the 1st one happening 1/2 second before the nig one, and to the left of it....somthing kicks up about 1/3 the material as the big one does, just before the big one squirts. I dunno....

I used a tooth pick to pull the door rock off the hole yesterday and there was still some sand around etc. I then placed a piece of raw shrimp near the hole and turned out all the lights coming back every 15-30 minutes to see if anything had moved or was eating. Nothing. eventually the power head blew the shrimp off the rock and the hermits dragged it away.
There is something in there for sure, but now that I moved the door rock, I have no idea if it is even still there or if it moved somewhere else in the tank?

Also I haven't seen any of that type of movement since. I probably scared it by touching the hole at all.

LOL...I have had my tank for some time now, and still when I look close I see something that I hadn't noticed before. I hope whatever was in the hole isn't a bad thing and all is well. I once found a little tiny red crab with black claws and tossed it back in the tank, I was told later that they were bad to have. I never saw it again, I worried about it for a year waiting to try and find it again ...it never re-appeared and I never had any problems.

Ha I am just waiting to find out it was like an underwater black widow spider or something living in there.

Ok well after some slight tweaking based on the opinions of members on the forum as well as my wife, here is how the tank will stay set up at least until I buy more rock.

Added 3 Koralia 4's yesterday. Also found one of my 2 peppermint shrimp shredded by the zoo med pump. Seems extremely strange since those powerheads aren't even powerful.

^Thanks. The right looks pretty boring, but it is a series of tunnels so the inverts and stuff love being over there. Eventually I may build it up as well though.
Apparently coral>anemone :(

Im new too, (srry if it was already stated, but I dont have time to read all the posts) but what I did to get all my LR & LS is I went to craigslist. I waited till I found someone breaking down their tank & bought their stuff. This worked out wonderfully cause since it was still in his tank and had a couple critters still in it, I didnt have to cycle the tank at all! Im on my 3rd week and have added 3 fish and some inverts & everything is still good. I got 75 lbs of LS & LR for $150... Jus look around & otll save u some big bucks and time ) just have a bottle of joes jiuce on hand incase any pests pop up cause ya never know... Jus my 2¢.
Good luck, saltwater tanks are like roller coasters, it totally freaks u out at first, but when u finally do it its SOOOO much fun! (and u want more lol)

Thanks for the comments as well as the ideas on the LS/ LF.
My issue with the LR was I wanted good looking rock so I got really picky and it got really expensive really fast.
I might be upgrading my tank tomorrow.
I made an offer on this tank and the sale is dependent on the condition of the tank. If it looks good I will bring it home this weekend and start setting up shop. I need to call my home builder though and see if he knows what type of weight my 2nd floor can hold? Anyone here have ideas on what homes can handle?
Here is the tank (180g)

I wasn't really looking for a tank, but I love how modern this looks with the stand etc, and it matches my house perfectly as well.
