Temperature (From 85.5 to 73 Degrees)

My poor clown is probably wondering what the hell is going on.
My tank was way too warm and my new MH light was not helping. The room it is in is just off the Master bedroom a couple of steps up (I will take a picture sometime). It is always the hottest room in the house, as it is the highest room in the house. Even with central air, the room is always around 80. Well add the MH light and you get a tank that is over 85 Degrees F. So I closed all of the vents in our basement, as well as many rooms on the main level (rooms that are always too cold anyway) forcing more air out of the vents in the bedroom and "office" where the tank is located. Came home from work today and the tank light was still off (need to get a timer...probably put it on from 10am to 10pm). The tank was 73 Degrees F. So I will open up a couple of vents on the main floor to increase the temperature in the office. I want to maintain around 78 Degrees so that I have margin of error on either side.

I'm not sure if there is a question in there. But if you are looking for the temp not to drop so much.... get a heater.

Not so much a question as much as an observation. I sometimes make observations on various things giving others the opportunity to say "QUIT DOING THAT IMMEDIATELY". Before I do anything, I just need to get the light on a 12 hour schedule, reduce the air conditioning in the Masterbedroom and see what happens.

You could try battling the temps by keeping the lights off during the hottest part of the day. Depending on what you are presently keeping, you don't need a full 12 hours of light.

I agree, get a heater. That way it never cools off. Its not so much the temp as maintaining a consistant one. Ive seen people maintain a temp of 82 degrees. Determine what the time rises to with your MH and program a heater for about 4 degrees less.
From my experience you can experience a quick outbreak of ich if you cant stabilize your temp. A change of 2 degrees Celsius can cause enough stress to bring it on.

There's nothing wrong with 85F if you keep it stable.
Just get a heater and set it to 85F and you're all set for Clownfish.
