I'm assuming becaus of the heatwave we've been having lately my tank temp is getting up to 84 degrees! I have no fish as it's a new tank set-up thats cycling, I see they hae chillers but are VERY pricey! Any tips from anyone? Is 84 too hot if I just keep it at that? THANKS!!!!

Do you have lids? you can also place a small fan blowing across the top of the water.....
IMO 84 is a little too high.....but not deadly...and you have no fish, so you have time to work on it

Hi,
I kept my tank at 84 because my Hippo tang liked it warm...the other fish were just fine. The only problem is no wiggle room..if the tank starts at 84 it can heat up too high fast, bt 84 is not bad...and no fish, relax. Like Meowzer said, use this time to learn how to tweak the temp and bring it down.

I've purposely kept reef tanks at 86F successfully. That said, you need to know your animals, where they come from, and what the environment is like in those locations. At 86F you need to be sure you have LOTs of water circulation and that your skimmer is functioning well.

This is the most effective way to lower the temperature of the water a few degrees.
if you do use evaporative cooling you may need an auto-topoff since evaporative water lo
ss will be constant, and considerable. (sorry about the auto-ripoff - shouldn't send from a phone with predictive text.)
