Well the very first page sells strip lighting. That isn't allowed. Why do people want to test? You know the rules. Abide by them or go elsewhere. I am sorry if that sounds harsh. It isn't meant to be. The rules are not hard to abide by. If you cannot control your urge to show things to other people then there is a problem. If it is for a specific person then get their email addy. Other than trying to help a person, you are breaking rules and are fully aware of that. The rules are clear and simple to follow.
Let me ask you. If you owned a saltwater fish store, would you want anyone coming into your store passing out Pets mart and Pet-co flyer's? They sell dog products, your store does not. They also sell fish products. People going over for a leash may buy a filter over there.

Some people just don't understand that we are guests here.
I'll admit that I post links. When I do, I make sure that there are no conflicts. It's hard to convince someone you know what you're talking about without some supporting documentation.

Oh, don't I know it!!! I posted a link to an information site that I thought was fine. They have a BB. I felt terrible. I would never knowingly break the rules of the board. You can copy and paste, as long as you cite the author of the information.

If it were ***** passing out flyers and I was a breeder, then I wouldn't have a problem. I'd probably help hand out the flyers, or work out some kind of symbiotic deal with the local pet stores.

I belong to SWF's forum. I need to abide by the rules. I understand that completely. However for me, I don't really know exactly what the boundaries are except that I can't post "competitors" sites. I don't think aqueon products are competitors, only because they do not sell any livestock whatsoever, but equipment. There may be a tiny percentage of overlap in goods sold, I'm sure. But is it enough to keep from information passing through the forum? Personally, I would not think so. Lets say someone wanted to get a tank and wanted it to have a cherry wood mission look to it. I would post that link because SWF does not offer such a thing, hence SWF not really competing with Aqueon products.
Just my two cents.
Also, one time I posted a link to a study of the effectiveness of garlic on marine life. That link was removed. If SWF does not sell this study, why did they delete it? Are they now competing for information?
I agree that if I put a link to a discount livestock website, I'd be slapping SWF in the face. But I'm thankful for this forum, and I wouldn't do anything that i wouldn't feel comfortable with others doing to me. having said that, IF it WERE my forum, I wouldn't have a problem with posting aqueon products on here, because I (meaning SWF) don't sell tanks and fake plants.

Where did you get that from??? They sell all kinds of fish, mostly wild caught. They also sell a wide variety of equipment and dry stock. Don't post a link again. You know it is against the rules. The rules are not difficult to follow.

Maybe I am missing your point. You cannot post links, use abbreviations for foul language nor post personal attacks. It isn't hard to follow the rules. Not even a little.

ACTUALLY after so may warnings your banned. Especially since you know that its against the rules of the board.
Rules are the rules if you or anyone else for that matter doesnt want to follow them there is nothing keeping you from going to a site that allows that. The main function of this site is a store and the board is offered to us all as a freebie and comes with certain rules that have to be abidded.

Mike, where exactly are the rules located??? That is the confusing part. I tried looking for them to post and couldn't find them! They should be stickied at the top of every board. I couldn't find them. They are not easily accessible

The main rules are listed in signature and because of that is listed as of now 10841 places on the board itself in all of the forums.
edit=posting them everywhere doesnt really help for example I closed several threads today for language in this forum and in the very top of the page is a sticky about language so that really doesnt help that much LOL

First off, I totally agree on the profanity and personal attacks... should not be allowed. Period.
The other side of the coin: I guess there's just a gray area as to what EXACTLY is a "competitor" ... at least in my perspective. That's all dude.
Also, "Breeder" was just a metaphor. I'm sure they get a lot of varied livestock, both tank raised and wild-caught.
I have no problem with you, and I think it's good that you take a strong approach to it. I didn't mean to say "gangbusters" negatively. If someone said "Gangbusters" to me, I'd be like "heck yeah I am!"

What do you mean here? The Mod's signatures? Can we not get it posted at the top of each forum? Surely that can happen. Copy and paste. Then people have NO excuse for breaking the rules. They would be stickied at the top of each forum.

a competitor of SWF.com is any online vendor that sells anything aquairum related because 99% of everything is transitional and stores always get new things in and most if they dont sell it will link to a site that does or is associated with one.
the main part of that rule that most people dont look at and gets the link removed is that the site that is being link can not have any links to a site that violate the rules if it does its not allowed to be posted.

I made my own for a lot cheaper than you can buy one there are several different plans on here that people have done and can be done fairly easily.
but yeah you can discuss a certain brand but not where to purchase it the make search engines for that if you find a brand you like and SWF.com doesnt sell them.
mods dont look at the PMs but admin can if he sees something that he doesnt like in the PMs then he can shut them off completely * especially sense thats a recent addition to the board.*
the rules of the board still apply to PMs though no cussing posting of links or being rude in them. We get forearded PMs from users when they arent follwed in PM which is posted in the shark tank to be handled by admin.
there is a alot that goes on behind the scenes the mods all talk and get information from each other and discuss any problem members ect. that arise
