I was thinking last night while I was attempting to sleep... I was trying to make sense of why xenia pulse.
My first thought was: Maybe xenia pulse as a way to regulate their own temperature. The faster pulsing could heat the coral up enough to make them more comfortable....
then I decided to use my arm as a xenia... I put my arm out and 'pulsed' with my hand... what happens? My forearm muscles move and stretch.. tendons allow my fingers to open/close... What if xenia is a muscle and pulsing is a way to help them reproduce quicker? Besides the symbiotic algae within that helps them grow, maybe under right circumstances they pulse quicker or slower to try and spread quicker.
Just a thought...
