But the mother of one of the girls said that Lindsay had provoked the other teens by threatening and insulting them on MySpace, a social networking Web site.
After the girls were arrested, Christina Garcia told the newspaper she looked at Lindsay's MySpace page and saw the message: "hahaha all in jail."
"A lot of people think, 'I can say whatever I want on here and nobody's gonna say anything,'" Garcia said. "A fight is a fight, but this was a beatdown. She did not deserve what she got, but I don't know how she's that messed up and able to get on the computer and talk about that."
Sorry, but if that was my daughter, I'd take her over to that mother's house, I'd hold the mother down, and let my daughter beat the crap out of her for 30 minutes. Then I'd tell the mother, "Now that wasn't so bad was it? I mean, it was only for 30 minutes. Is that your definition of a beatdown? OK, you can go write about on your MySpace blog. You don't look that messed up."
The victim couldn't have been that bad of a kid, she is an honor student and how did she supposedly post on her myspace when she is in the hospital with vision and hearing loss? I think that girl's mom is lying to try to make her kid seem like less of the monster she really is.

Yeah I was checking out some of the youtube videos about it . They got their15 minutes of fame and a criminal record to prove it .

From what I understand of it, they had already knocked the girl unconscious and she had a concussion prior to the video clip. Kinda had to think logically and fight back when in that state.
IME boys fight to show dominance, once this is established, fight is usually over. They have a beer or shake hands and laugh about it, at least IME. Girls seem to hold grudges forever and are much more vindictive in a personal way.
When I saw the victim trying to leave and one girl held the door shut, that raised it to an entirely new level from a "street fight" which was bad enough.
Sticks & stones kids, sticks & stones...

Does it matter? Do derogatory comments deserve this sort of beating?

Absolutely not. But if so, you would think that she would not go to their house to watch music videos. This was the mob's excuse for beating her, so I thought it pertinent to have that sort of information. Why would you dis someone then allow yourself to be lured in like that? I'm sure mental anquish will be brought up by the liar, oops, I mean lawyer for the mob. This in no way justifies what they did, but does give motive.

If a gang of derelicts did that to my daughter, their families would be dirt poor for generations. I would sue the pants (literally) off of their parents and send them copies of receipts where I gave their money to charities and my daughter's college education.

Ditto.

Actually,........
I don't think I could do that. I posted while thinking about the possibility of this happening to my daughter and it does not reflect what I would do if it did happen. While this would be my initial reaction, I would have a hard time suing all the parents.

For the comments on myspace, there was a great TV show the other day on "the Internet" and kids, everything from being lured by creeps to bullying. I forget the name or channel.
. Will try and look it up. Anyways, they had interviewed a family whose once happy son had commited suicide from being bullied and threated over IM and myspace. It was quite eye opening.
Either way, I think everyone should take a step back and relook. These attackers were once this girl's close friends. There has to be something serious enough for them to turn like that and do something so horrendous. And like I said, this girl was a known bully at the school and kids cheered at the school when the video was shown.
It's just that I don't see the same level of evil IMO like that Sheriff. It's not like they just saw this girl randomly at school and wanted to 'get her.' Also they could have done a million things far worse. Obviously they went way too far and I agree 100% that they still needed to be punished, just not burned at the stake.

These girls should be shipped off to the island I proposed in the "gang baby" thread.

Isay put the tough girls in the octagon with some gals that can really fight and let them get the snot beat out of them .A little one on one with somebody that can fight back would do some eye opening .

The judge ruled they'll be tried as adults. Some of them face a possible life sentence. Don't see that happening, but with so much publicity, I bet the girls shown hitting her on the video, and the one that gave her the concussion, will be seeing some kind of jail time. Bail has been set at $30,000. Hey, maybe the Garcia kid's mother will "take her to the beach for Spring Break" so they get away from it for a while....
