Okay I'm freaking out just a bit! So I did a water change the other day vacuumed the sand really well (stupid DIATOMS, bloom is going away) right after I did that and I as cleaning up I noticed both of my yellows scratching, then Angel, frigging everybody was scratching on the rocks. I was like wtf is going on. I have been spying on them non stop for the last couple of days. They havent scratched since but I pulled my blue and QT'd her. Just really scared me because it is not easy catching all of these speedy brats. Anyone ever heard of this happening? This is my first run with really fine white sand so maybe I sturred it up too much and they had particles stuck to them? I have no idea. My bf says im going crazy.

oh I guess I should also say that everyone looks fine, eating well, swimming normally, breathing normally. The Dog has white crap all over him but he always does, he spits sand everywhere. LOL

not always on them all the first round.a sudden change in water quality might aggrevate them.did you add a fish recently without putting it in a qt first?

yes,.... I crush a clove and get all the skin of and make little slits in the clove and put it in the food.
I do the exact same thing as Kiefers with garlic cloves and my fish absolutely love it! My fish have become a little spoiled though, if I ever neglect to soak their food they can totally tell the difference and aren't as ravenous. I might be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that the vitamin C from garlic is good at helping to prevent ich by boosting their immune system. One little clove of garlic goes a really long way too!

ich is an invert. it typically kills a fish by inhibiting their gills by population.garlic or vitamin c does nothing to help.it is the scent of the garlic the fish go to.it helps entice a fish to eat sometimes if they wont eat.thats about all its good for.if ich is in the system with fish the whole system needs to be treated.most fish will survived the first round of ich.but once it drops off to breed and comes back 100 times in number thats when the fish have next to no chance.ich cannot be killed in the stage where you see it on the fish.so if you see it on the fish and it goes away you bet it will be back in a week or so many times over

I agree with the fact that garlic does not stop or prevent the parasite, nonetheless studies have shown that the vit. C in the garlic does increase the immune system of the fish to help deal with the parasite.
Mostly yes, an appitite inducer, but hey, who doensn't like garlic in your seafood?? I mean really!

I totally understand your worry, I get super paranoid about stuff when it involves my tank and fish and I have a really small aquarium. Before I actually got a SW tank I was under the impression that it would be relaxing and soothing to have a bit of ocean in my home. Now I'm so obsessed with it, and I worry about the littlest things.

These brats are going to give me a heart attack and im not even 30 lol. I came home last night to seeing dog stuck against my overflow box. I started crying instantly. My bf flashed a light on him and said "im sorry babe". I quickly grabbed my ladder and anything that was near me (which was "the claw") to try and move him off the box. I know its got to be a strong suction feeling. I moved him off and he came swimming to the front of the tank and was like "hey ya gonna feed me". wth boy! He does some strange things that worry me. ugh
