that's a clarkii (spelling?) clown i have one now he is a cool fish.he sits in my yellow polyps like its an anemone.
i had a purple and Achilles in my tank both of the same family.the only reason they got along was because the purple was there for a few years already and 4 inches.the Achilles was 7-8 inches so the purple gave him respect.they got along but i wouldn't recommend the combo.

Here were my maroons.. LOVED THEM (though the female was evil and bit me every chance she got, just VERY territorial)
if you buy LIVE sand it is from somewhere established,, that being said after sand is in your tank and gains the normal benthic organisms and bacteria.. all sand becomes live..
Unless you have something that eats all the LIVE out of it...
put your money in live rock.and go either 150 or 180.you seem to want bigger fish.live rock is the back bone of filtration period.no need for canisters.as far as i know hob skimmer arent any good.i had one but it was 25 years ago and had a wood air block in it.imo live sand is a wast of money it will become live soon after the cycle is done so spend that money on live rock.
I dont believe in HOB or canisters... if possible due a sump... but if that is NOT an option a canister offers good mechanical filtration if you keep up on it...
I agree with deejeff and would buy ATLEAST 1lb of LR per gallon of water if not more.. and just plain sand for 99% of it and I personally buy 1 bag of Live sand just to start off with...
everything has to cycle anyways so...
So the HOB is basically a waste of money for its worth? Ok also, about sump. I would like RO have one but aren't they usually not very goof homemade? Also, aren't they hard to make and expensive? Thanks
I think HOB's are for freshwater and for a quarantine tank.. i wouldnt use it on anything bigger than a 30g with a light bioload in saltwater...
are you talking about a Reverse Osmosis (RO) unit??
I'm not following the RO reference in that last post...
