I'm not sure if there is an industry standard for the term "mixed reef" I always equated it with a mixture of SPS, LPS, softies, and low light corals with fish....

thanks.. thinking on it im a start with a tank around 75g to be small, yet kinda big and learn the salt hobby. how does this sound for stocking list
either maroon clarkii or ocellaris clown pair
2-3 purple firefish
2-3 bangaii cardinalfish
foxface rabbitfish
flame angelfish- reef safe?
flame hawkfish
is a zebra dwarf lionfish safe with other fish?
goby-what kind for my tank?
fairy wrasse. how does this sound. thanks friends preciate it.

Lionfish unfortunently will eat the smaller clows, the firefish, a smaller goby, and the cardinals :(
IF you did a lionfish it has to be more of a "species" tank.. meaning he is the centerpiece and you have to build around him...

Plus that would be alot of fish in 1 tank....
you could do the clown pair, foxface, angelfish (not always reef safe its always a possibility they will nip at corals and they sometimes liek inverts too), flame hawk, sandsifting goby, and the wrasse.. that would be QUITE enough for that tank....

depends on your lighting,, you can add corals whenever you would like,, keep in mind adding fish you need to only add one or 2 at a time and let the biological filtration catch up... give it a few weeks atleast before adding any other fish...
with corals It depends on the feeding needs I'd say the same.. you dont want to add a whole bunch of stuff in your new tank with high feeding demands that could cause it to build up ammonia and nitrates/ nitrites...

ahh this all depends on the types of corals you have... some can eat mysis even krill...
this is where the extensive research comes in.. especially since you will be adding more food to the tank...

I have tried Marine Snow, I assume it helped my filter feeding corals, as far as LPS, SPS, etc. I doubt that it helped much, if at all. I stopped using it after completing one bottle. Same with a lot of other products. I now simply stick to good lighting and frequent water changes.

tangs get stressed out easily.this is why they want a 6 foot long tank as they grow.i had a few tangs in a 90 for a while but not really a good idea for a beginner.if i were you i would just find a 125+ tank.you seem to want bigger fish and i have a feeling if you go with a 75 you will be in a lfs one day and the guy will tell you its ok for a tang in a 75 and you will buy it.i was at a lfs yesterday getting some carbon.anyway i overheard a salesman talking to a customer about buying a tang.the customer has a 125 tank.i just kept hearing from the salesman how that is such a big tank and you can put anything in it.lol i am so glad i know better .and its great begginers have an unbiased forum like here to help.i sure didnt when i started.i remember i started with a 45 gallon and the store was selling me expert level fish and anything i liked in the store.dont trust a lfs untill you are sure they are not bs'ing you for a sale.

he person at the lfs said 100+g for one. I know they get 16" but I saw one like 1" today. I want to grow him and keep him for a couple of years in my 75. Then, I will sell the fish or upgrade and put him in the big new tank. Sound alright?

Fish that small are usually harder to keep than the larger ones, most require multiple feedings per day. Very fragile size.
