The Premiership game between Chelsea vs. Man U is Wed. May 9th. Yea I saw the the Man U vs Portsmouth game.
We also play Chelsea again May 19 for the FA Cup. Two great games to watch, if anybody out there is interested.

I continued work on my stand again today. I got quite a bit done, but I still have a way to go. Here is a picture of some of my progress this afternoon:

While we were working on my stand I went ahead and set up my RO unit to go ahead and make the 10 gallons that I have to discard before I make water for my tank. It's the Coralife Pure-Flo II, 24gpd:

Well here is what I have at the end of the day. I still have to put the doors on, put the trim on, sand it, and stain it. I'm thinking that I'll be done by this weekend.

How many times are you supposed to change the water during the cycle? I thought you wait until the cycle is done and then do a water change once it has completed.
Where did you get your DI canister btw?

It will make a lot more sense once it is done...I still have to put the doors on as well as the trim.

To tell you the truth, I think Man U is going to win both of the games. Chelsea hasn't been playing too hot lately...either way they will be great games and a blast to watch. I can't wait! Go Blues!
I am going to try and order my Live Rock sometime next week. I will start setting my tank up once I order it. I can't wait till then! I'll update again tomorrow!

It's looking great. As far as the water changes during your cycle, you want to watch your ammonia levels, if they get to high, like over 3.5 or so, you will want to do a water change because whatever is live on your rock can die off if the ammonia levels get to high. I had to do this with my QT tank (used uncured live rock to cycle), but with my DT, my ammonia levels never got as high, so I waited until the cycle was over and then did my water change.

You’re out to a great start! Nice work on the stand as well. :happyfish
It’s good to see someone young like your self taking the time and effort to do things right.

Again…great job, keep it up.

If this happened, would I need to do a complete water change or just like 10% or so?

Just 10% or so, if the ammonia levels are not coming down, then do a 20%, but never a complete water change. And again, you only need to do this if your ammonia levels get to high.

Well I didn't get a chance to work on my tank today. I have to go back to Home Depot tomorrow and exchange some wood and get my doors and some buckets for water. I'm almost positive I will have my Live Rock ordered next week. I still have to get another powerhead and a test kit. I should have my stand finished tomorrow!
Also, I haven't seen much on here about canister filters...do people not use them? What don't people like about them?

I've never used a canister, but I like the sump becaue it adds water volume to your tank and you can stick needed items in your sump so you don't have to compromise the look of your DT, like heaters (though I have heaters in mine, but you can't see them
) macro algea, more live rock, and of course your skimmer, which I feel is the best filter you can have. No need to replace anything, just clean out your skimmer cup a few times a week and if you do have a sponge it's cheap to replace when needed. I also dose my calcium and buffer in my sump, so it gets mixed up pretty good before going into my DT. Not sure if this would be different with the canister (I think it would) but when my water level goes down due to evap, it goes down in my sump, NOT my DT, so it always looks the same.

I have a canister on my 54g and I have not had any problems with it. You just have to maintain a maintences schedule on it. I have the Fluval 305 and every month I rotate changing out a carbon bags and a filter. I rinse everything else out with the water I get from my water changes.
The down side is that you have the equipment in your tank but with a little creativity you can hide the equipment.

I thought about buying that one, but I ended up buying the Marineland C-220 instead. Same price and I've heard that it is better. Good thing the media isn't that expensive. I'm sure I can hide it behind my LR or something...Also, what kind of protein skimmer do you have Katz?

No, I have not had any problem with it. It has been a great little skimmer and I with that it would work on my 125 but too small. I give this skimmer a

everything looks great, good luck.
as for the ammonia....don't let it get over 1.0. if so do a water change up to 50 percent or more to get it back down. you may not need to do such a big water change, but be ready.
i bought some lr from online and it looks great, so good luck....you will save money if its bought online, usually lfs charge twice as much as you can order it online.
grade A, heater.
only thing i'm thinking is....when i was in college i didn't have any money, lol. of course with this hobby i don't have any now....lol.

i believe that shark will need a bigger tank down the road, so just remember that.
i think they need brackish water, too.

They can live in salt water too. There are two of them in a tank with a zebra eel in a LFS store in my area.
