What are we paying are cops to do?

Well my mom and I came home today after cleaning the office, and we came home to find our neighbor's house got broken into. There were two or three cop cars. Well it's getting kinda close to dark so I went to get a couple miles in on my bicycle.
I was doing my second mile and therre was a car behind me. I was coming up to a 4 way intersection in my neighborhood and a stop sign. I didn't stop (I never do unless there is a car in front of me or about to cross), well I zoomed on by and I hear sirens. I look back and there is a cop beckoning me back. I got pulled over for running a stop light and speeding on a bicycle! I got off the bike and walked back.
The officer said,"Son, do you know that on a bike in the road you have to follow road rules?"
Me:"No, officer."
The officer:"Well son, when you get to a stop sign you have to stop. And you have to yield, stop, and follow the speed limit." He went on for another 2 min.
Me the whole time: Yes officer, no officer.
The cops I guess did a crapy job at the house inspecting it and chasing a dude who broke in, but pulled me over on my bicyle.
Scared the crap out of me. When the first one pulled up, then a second one pulled behind him so I was going through worse case scenarios. But the second one exited the neighborhood.

I know they are doing their job and all, but still, it's scary. If I didn't follow orders, he could do anything to me and I couldn't do anything about it.

He's just doing his job. (maybe he thought you broke into the house?)
He didn't give you a ticket or anything, did he?

i would never stop for a cop if i was on my bike.
he was most likely just trying to find more info on you, to see if you were a possible suspect for whoever robbed the house.
i can tell you around here, we pay the cops to set up speed traps and write us tickets. or just harass teenagers. ive been pulled over numerous times for my stereo being too loud, which is a waste of tax dollars imo. in my town, im sure there was a house being robbed somewhere, that needed the attention of the cops more than i did.

I always slow down a bit. Most bikers don't stop because it takes more work to get back going again and this section of street is extremely windy and there is a steep hill around the corner.

Cant count the number of times m kids have been awakened on a school night by disrespectful people with loud radios and motorcycles ripping through the neighborhood, so in that regard Im glad the cops are doing their jobs. It's the responsibility of the Police to keep the peace. It's annoying when some jackass pulls up behind me at a light and I cant even hear my radio due to his thumping bass.

theres a difference between a nice sounding stereo, and just trying to wake up the neighbors. i dont play my stereo loud in residential parts of town, in front of my house, in front of friends houses, or after i turn off the main road in town (which means its not loud in front of anybodys house). at anytime of day/night.
just becasue your old and in bed at 9, doesnt mean the rest of the world has to succumb to you.

LOL. Gotta love the young and foolish. Go ahead and crank it up. When the cop or ambulance comes up behind you with it's sirens going, and you can't hear them because of the music, don't cry when you get the ticket or in a wreck.
Also enjoy what I hear on a daily basis. It's called Tinitus. All I hear 24/7 is this ear-piercing high pitched noise in my head. Why? Because I was a roadie for 2 years in the 70's, and listened to 'loud music' practically every night. Headphones or ear plugs? Please. Who wears headphones/earplugs to a Led Zepplin, KISS, ZZ Top, or Metallica concert.

thats f'n retarded....You dont need a license to ride a bicycle. So why do you have to follow traffic laws, next they will be taking kids bikes away for riding on grass or off the road.

LOL !!! Should have bribed him with a doughnut instead of listening to his babbling. What did he clock you going on your bike ? 1/4 mile per hour ? LOLOLOL !!! Geez - they need to fight crime instead of pulling over bicycle riders and giving lectures ...
